Job Summary
An outstanding and forward-thinking secondary school in Gloucester is seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Science to lead its successful department from April 2026. This is an exceptional opportunity to shape and develop Science provision within a high-performing school committed to academic excellence and continuous improvement.
Science is a core strength of the school with excellent GCSE and A Level results across Biology Chemistry and Physics. The department is well resourced collaborative and ambitious in its approach to curriculum delivery.
The Role
Leading and managing the Science department across KS3 KS4 and KS5
Driving high standards of teaching learning and assessment across all disciplines
Developing an ambitious and coherent Science curriculum
Monitoring pupil progress and implementing targeted improvement strategies
Line managing and developing teaching staff within the department
Overseeing practical provision laboratory standards and compliance
Managing departmental budgets and resource allocation
Contributing to whole-school improvement planning and senior leadership initiatives
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
A degree in a Science subject
Proven experience teaching Science at secondary level including KS5
Previous leadership experience within a Science department
A strong track record of raising attainment and improving outcomes
Excellent organisational and strategic leadership skills
The ability to inspire staff and pupils in a high-expectations environment

Salary
