This role is with a prestigious hospitality organization located in Burlingame The organization is known for its culture of professionalism respect and strong relationships between leadership and staff.
Position Overview
The organization is seeking an accomplished Director of Finance to lead all financial operations and oversee Human Resources functions. This role will replace a long-tenured Controller who is retiring after years of distinguished service.
The Director of Finance will supervise finance and HR staff and serve as a key member of the executive leadership team reporting directly to the General Manager / COO. The ideal candidate is a proven financial leader with strong technical accounting expertise sound judgment and experience supporting a service-driven member-focused organization.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Direct all accounting and financial operations including general ledger accounts payable/receivable payroll cash management and financial reporting
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly quarterly and annual financial statements
- Lead the annual budgeting process and monitor performance against approved budgets
- Provide financial analysis forecasting and variance reporting to management and the Board
- Analyze financial performance and recommend corrective actions to ensure alignment with organizational objectives
- Maintain insurance policies and records ensuring adequate coverage and competitive rates
- Partner with senior leadership and facilities management to ensure the Capital Reserve Study remains current and aligned with Board-approved capital plans
- Negotiate and administer employee benefit programs
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls accounting policies and procedures
- Ensure compliance with GAAP tax regulations and applicable local state and federal laws
- Coordinate annual audits tax filings and relationships with external auditors and advisors
- Ensure all required filings and reporting obligations are completed accurately and on time
Operational & Strategic Support
- Collaborate with department heads to support financial planning cost control and operational efficiency
- Oversee point-of-sale and management systems from a financial oversight perspective
- Support capital projects reserve planning and long-term financial strategy
Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise mentor and develop accounting and HR staff
- Foster a culture of accuracy accountability professionalism and continuous improvement
- Promote cross-department collaboration with a strong service-oriented mindset
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field
- CPA or CMA preferred
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting or finance experience
- Prior experience in hospitality private clubs or service-oriented organizations strongly preferred
- Experience working with Boards of Directors or finance committees highly desirable
Skills & Competencies
- Strong technical knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
- Proficiency with accounting and management software
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present financial information clearly and effectively
- High degree of discretion professionalism and service orientation
- Ability to perform effectively under deadlines and time-sensitive conditions
