In this highly technical role the candidate will be responsible for modeling and analysis of a range of power electronic converters and motor-drives for electric vehicle applications. The candidate will evaluate and compare various candidate power converters and recommend optimal practical solutions in terms of topology modulation and components for given applications and requirements.
Job Description
Assessment and analysis of different possible powertrain architectures for off-highway electric vehicles.
Research and survey of available power electronic converters (in terms of the topology modulation active and passive components ) suitable for electric vehicle applications.
Identify the pros and cons of the candidate powertrain architectures and the power converter topologies and the tradeoff between them.
Quantitative evaluation and comparison of the candidate solutions and making recommendation for the optimal solution to achieve the highest power density and efficiency for the given application requirements.
Electric and loss-thermal model development for various medium-voltage (from a few 100s of Volts to a few kV) and high-power (from 100s of kW up to several MW) converters including AC-DC (rectifier/charger) DC-AC (inverter/motor-drive) and isolated and non-isolated DC-DC converter topologies.
Deep-dive analytical-based (including the underlying physics principles mathematical derivation circuits and control theory ) and simulation-based analyses of various power electronic converters.
Participate and present in the internal and customer meetings.
Keep up to date with the latest developments and research publications in the areas of power electronics and motor-drives for the electrification applications.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in electrical engineering.
Experience in at least one of the following areas:
Medium/high voltage power electronics with a focus on either bidirectional DC-DC converters inverters or battery chargers
Motor-drives and controls
Energy storage systems such as batteries and/or fuel-cell.
Core understanding of the theory of power electronics and motor-controls.
Good understanding of magnetics.
Strong background in the continuous- and discrete-domain control theory and dynamic systems.
Proficiency in model-based simulation and control design tools such as Simulink.
Basic practical experience with programming languages such as MATLAB or Python.
Experience and familiarity with practical issues and constraints involved in the design and applications of the high-power converters and motor-drives.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Strong team player and good interpersonal skills.
Preferred qualification
3 years of industry experience.
Experience with multi-level converters resonant converters and dual-active bridge (DAB) converters topologies modulation schemes and controls.
Strong backgrounds in physics and thermal management.
Working knowledge of vehicles.
Good presentation skills.
Strong organization and time management skills.
