Why Its a Great Opportunity:The Pierce County Summer Internship Program is back! This year our program will run from 6/8/2026 through 8/28/2026. We are excited to offer opportunities that provide realistic and meaningful work experiences while providing Pierce County Departments with interns who bring fresh perspectives and support to complete special projects. Interns are a part of a cohort that attend weekly activities together. These sessions include classes project planning and tours of various departments and facilities to learn about the County and the types of great job opportunities we offer. As a cohort you will be responsible for a culminating group presentation before the Pierce County Council.

About the Department:The mission of the CJFJC is to partner with survivors to heal pasts and build futures. This is done through working partnership with survivors professionals and the community to break down barriers advocate for equitable practices which promote safety and access for ALL survivors. The CJFJC creates a haven where needs are met children are protected violence stops families begin to heal and thrive and hope is realized. About the Internship: The Crystal Judson Family Justice Center (CJFJC) is looking for a dedicated intern to join our team who does their best work every day supporting survivors of gender-based violence. You will have the opportunity to work with advocates and learn about the daily work of the FJC from the initial intake and the development of individual safety plans learning how to approach clients with a therapeutic approach learning to answer calls from the community while they are experiencing a crisis and providing outreach to survivors on police reports and survivors of non-fatal strangulations. You will shadow advocates as they work with survivors making an immediate and positive impact on individual lives and your community while confidentially advocating for survivors. We work hard for survivors and our community making sure those in need have the support to recover. This is your chance to have a rewarding internship opportunity where no two days are the same.

How to be Successful in the Role:In this position you will have the opportunity to work with the FJCs community advocacy outreach program and legal programs which provide culturally specific services throughout Pierce County. You should be empathetic curious have a growth mindset and be skilled in working with a wide array of people from multiple backgrounds. You must be passionate about serving others specifically in supporting survivors of gender-based violence.

Core Daily Responsibilities:

  • Assist in projects related to the FJCs strategic plan
  • Shadowing staff operating the crisis line
  • Completing outreach calls to survivors
  • Shadowing client intake sessions
  • Attend protection order hearings as a support to survivors

Minimum Qualifications

Internship Requirements:

  • A cover letter is required for consideration. Without one you will not be considered.
  • Must be local 6/8/2026 8/28/2026 to attend in-person cohort meetings activities and any work-related tasks.
  • Must be at least 18 years old as of 6/8/2026.
  • Currently studying or have experience in social work psychology sociology gender/womens studies human services or related field
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Desire to serve the community with empathy and compassion
  • Commitment to learning and growth
