  • 10 years of Industrial Gas experience with demonstrated leadership skills

  • Bachelors degree in chemical mechanical or electrical engineering

  • Strong analytical skills organizational skills interpersonal skills ability to work alone comfort around executive management and the ability to influence others

  • Ability to grasp recall and utilize details across multiple locations and projects in everyday work

  • Must be capable of creating and understanding detailed discounted cash flow analysis (NPV IRR)

  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Excel (complicated worksheet structures pivot tables graphing)

  • Strong understanding of PowerPoint (graph development table manipulation formatting)

  • Willingness to travel at least 35% - 65%

  • Willingness to work out of the Tempe AZ Region office or an Area Plant in the West Region options include Tacoma WA Hillsboro OR Pittsburg CA Wilmington CA Ontario CA Phoenix AZ or Magna UT.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA and/or finance experience

  • 2 years of experience in each of the following areas: Operations Merchant and/or On-Site Sales Plant Management project management financial analysis)

  • Air Separation Carbon Dioxide and Hydrogen Production Process Knowledge

  • Proven track record of leading teams as well as influencing others without direct authority

Pay commensurate with experience. Open to salary range $125475 - $184030.

Job Overview:

Lead the West Regions entire capital process for projects ranging from $5k to $750 million. Manage the West Region Energy procurement process of electricity and natural including negotiating and managing contracts forecasts accruals and escalations representing Linde in trade associations in both regulatory and legislative arena and developing innovative contract structures and options to maximize operational flexibility and profitability.

Scope:

This position is a two-fold the Capital area the position is accountable for managing all West Region capital projects (backlog base growth maintenance cost reduction and safety). This includes:

  • Evaluating new capital project opportunities in conjunction with Sales Operations R&D and other groups

  • Developing and presenting capital projects for approval

  • Acquiring funding

  • Ensure successful completion

  • Manage the projects within the West Regions overall capital budget.

In the Energy Management area this position manages the West Region Energy procurement process of electricity and natural including:

  • Negotiating and managing contracts forecasts accruals and escalations.

  • Developing innovative contract structures and options to maximize operational flexibility and profitability

  • Representing Linde in trade associations in both regulatory and legislative arenas both regionally as well as across 7 states.

Reporting Relationships:

This position reports to the USIG West Region Vice President. This position may have some part-time help inputting and tracking Operations-based maintenance work orders.

Primary Responsibilities:

Capital:

  • Actively engage in on-site and pipeline sales opportunities ensure involvement of key stakeholders and assist sales in developing winning commercial models.
  • Create Capex models of varying complexity and provide financial analysis in support of the sales organizations project opportunities.
  • Assist the sales team with evaluation of contract renewals with respect to residual contract value and competitive alternatives
  • Work with Product Management and Sales on identifying developing and obtaining approval for Merchant expansions.
  • Develop with the Region Controller the Regions annual capital plan and provide capital spend reporting forecasting and variance analysis to leadership and operations.
  • Work closely with Region Operations Productivity/Cost Reduction Specialists and Linde Engineering project teams to ensure capital is spent efficiently is properly prioritized and remains within capital plan limitations.
  • Lead the Regions Capex approval process and development of project presentations for the LGUS Investment Committee and/or CEO approval as required
  • Support periodic fixed asset reviews at existing facilities
  • Perform miscellaneous analysis and provide financial Capital WO training for region employees

Energy Management

  • Oversee a 240-mW power book in the Region from 18 different locations valued at $130MM/year.
  • Oversee a 13000 MMBtu/day natural gas book in the Region from 2 locations valued at $17MM/year.
  • Responsible for special contracts and interruptible power programs that are worth $24MM/year of operating profit.
  • Oversee and lead the acquisition of real-time energy billing components from the plant control systems.
  • Oversee and lead the monthly forecasting accrual validation and approval of each monthly invoice.
  • Oversee and lead the management of power/natural gas indices for on-site and Merchant formula escalations. Support Sales in review of every new and renewal contract to ensure proper setup of all formula contracts.
  • Monitor rate riders and tariffs and adapt contracts to the most advantageous terms for Linde.
  • Develop train and implement location-specific energy management strategies.
  • Train Productivity Specialists on the utility energy efficiency capital and SEM programs support energy efficiency initiatives and develop new utility energy efficiency options and programs.
  • Work within the trade association and state legislative space to engage Linde in managing general rate cases legislative laws impacting energy bills and develop innovative ideas to improve Lindes operating profit.
