Job Summary

In this role you will contribute to the development and full characterisation cycle of radiation- and magnetic-field-tolerant DCDC converters powering the LHC experiments (ATLAS CMS ALICE and LHCb). You will design and upgrade complex test setups enhance control and monitoring software (Python) and perform electrical and radiation tolerance testing to ensure reliable large-scale deployment.

Your responsibilities

  • Participate in the design and commissioning of complex testing systems able to run and monitor tens of DCDC converters in real time logging results in a database accessible from the web.
  • Organise the different testing campaigns (electrical radiation and reliability).
  • Actively participate in the large radiation electrical and reliability test campaign of the CERN DCDC converters with final reporting and documentation.

Your profile

  • Proven experience in the use of electronic lab instruments (PS multimeters oscilloscopes digitisers active loads etc.)
  • Knowledge in working with real-time systems and implementations (e.g. MCUs).
  • Proven hands-on experience in soldering and handling of electrical equipment.
  • Knowledge in writing technical reports user documentation and manuals.
  • Experience in the design of PCBs; their production and verification/debugging is a plus
  • Experience in power electronics is a plus.

Skills

  • Programming in Python MATLAB and possibly in LabVIEW.
  • Operate multimetres oscilloscopes electronic loads and programmable power supplies directly in the lab or remotely with ad-hoc developed software.
  • Adapting quickly and resourcefully to shifting priorities and requirements.
  • Delivering high-quality work on time and fulfilling expectations; being rigorous and producing quality results at first attempt.
  • Altium/KiCad or other PCB design software knowledge is a plus.
  • Spoken and written English with a commitment to learn French.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • By the application deadline you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelors or Masters degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.

Additional Information :

Job closing date: 09.03.2026 at 23:59 CET.

Contract duration: 24 months with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Working hours: 40 hours per week

Job flexibility: Fully Onsite
