Job Title:

Manager-Stroke Program

Job Summary:

To develop organize and coordinate the stroke program at Health System. This will include the identification interpretation and implementation of requirements for TJC the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association in planning for quality patient care. To integrate patient care and support services throughout the organization and establish expectations and plan and manage processes to measure assess and improve performance of the facility. To provide leadership and guidance to nursing leadership for required staff and patient education. To provide and conduct data analysis for submission to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for TJC.

Education & Experience

Bachelors degree in nursing. Three (3) years of related experience two (2) of these years in a supervisory role. Experience cannot be substituted for educational requirement.

Certifications licenses or registration required: RN license

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

Leadership abilities. Ability to work under stressful situations. Verbal and written communications skills. Conflict resolution skills. Knowledge and skill to provide age appropriate clinical care. Knowledge of program management and ability to provide performance measures that meet or exceed program requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies stroke patients on a daily basis. Reviews stroke performance measures and submits data to American Heart Association for submission to TJC.
  • Develops coordinates and manages stroke program. Facilitates educational performance goalsand measures to ensure performance in the required areas including EMS AED radiology and NSICU. To further develop and coordinate with colleagues for community and ems education and involvement.
  • Assists in development of supporting aspects of the stroke program to include but not limited to a stroke survivor support group based at Health System. Coordinates readily available resources from aha national stroke association and Mississippi Department of Health.
  • Integrates the operations of all stroke services to develop a quality stroke program.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of the stroke program and are consistent with Health System overall policies.
  • Assesses the quality of patient care services routinely by direct observation; review of initial and continuing assessments for relevance to the patients status; review of plans of care for relevance to physical spiritual psychological and developmental needs of the patient; review of patient satisfaction through input from patients family significant others and medical staff; and participation in performance improvement activities.
  • Develops short and long range plans for the stroke program which are consistent with the Health System mission and vision TJC standards and other regulatory agency standards. Accountable for maintaining the needed requirements for TJC-DSC for stroke.
  • Performs clinical duties appropriate to scope of practice.
  • Actively participates on strategies that support the mission/vision of Health System. Represents Health System to the community serves as a resource to the stroke program and Health System staff and students strives to ensure that every guest is afforded respect and courtesy and that the needs of each guest are foremost in the daily activities of the stroke program and continuously assesses and improves the performance of care and services provided.
  • Exhibits professional accountability. Participates actively in interdisciplinary treatment team and staff meetings orients staff and provides on-going in-service training for the stroke program unit staff attends educational programs to stay current on stroke issues and practices and maintains professionalism.

Requires occasional exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure blood borne pathogens fumes or airborne particles and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours frequent travelling to offsite locations occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature constant work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality occasional lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds frequent driving occasional reaching constant sitting constant standing and constant walking. (occasional-up to 20% frequent-from 21% to 50% constant-51% or more)
