School Caretaker Northallerton North Yorkshire

We are looking for a reliable and skilled School Caretaker to join a thriving secondary school and sixth-form college in Northallerton. This is a large busy site that requires a caretaker with a keen eye for detail and the ability to manage a demanding workload across multiple buildings. You will be joining a supportive site team that takes great pride in the schools reputation.
The Snapshot
Location: Northallerton (Brompton Road / Grammar School Lane area)
Salary:(North Yorkshire County Council scale)
Contract: Full-time Permanent (Year-round)
Schedule: Shift-based including some evening cover for school lettings.
Detailed Responsibilities
Infrastructure Maintenance: You will carry out a wide range of DIY tasks from replacing ceiling tiles to unblocking drains. Youll also be responsible for the aesthetic of the school ensuring that vandalism is dealt with immediately and that the school always looks its best for visitors.
Health & Safety Leadership: You will maintain the schools safety audits checking everything from the fire bells to the science lab gas taps. You will also be responsible for the safe storage of cleaning chemicals and maintenance equipment.
Winter Site Management: In North Yorkshire winter can be challenging. You will be the lead on our Snow and Ice plan ensuring that all entrances and bus drop-off points are cleared and salted before the first staff members arrive at 7:00 AM.
Community Support: Our school facilities are often used by the Northallerton community in the evenings. You will facilitate these lettings ensuring that groups have what they need and that the school is secured afterward.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful applicant will have a background in a practical trade or significant experience in a caretaker role. You must be able to work independently and use your initiative to spot a problem before it becomes a crisis. An Enhanced DBS check will be required for this role.
