Purpose of Role:

Ensure the efficient and safe operation of the foundry during the assigned shift. This includes maintaining high standards of safety quality and productivity while leading and supporting a team of workers to meet production goals. Responsible for implementing and upholding company policies optimizing manufacturing processes and fostering a positive work environment to achieve continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety First:

  • Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety culture.
  • Maintain the safety of all systems and processes in the Foundry and implement world class safety practices as guided by the Health and Safety department and senior management

Compliance:

  • Maintain the integrity of the ISO 9001: 2008 quality assurance system within the Isando departments including product traceability

Process Improvement:

  • Ensure continuous improvement of manufacturing processes to reduce waste and increase productivity.
  • Maintain and improve Foundry throughput through machine utilization management production routing and Bill of Material control.
  • Manage downtime and implement quick changeover processes.
  • Effectively manage production loading.

Budget and Resource Management:

  • Maintaining the Foundry expense budget including manning calculations shift control overtime control and raw material.

Scheduling and Capacity Management:

  • Work with the planning department to effectively schedule and manage the capacity of the Foundry.
  • Implement and maintain Make to Stock (MTS) and Make to Order (MTO) pull systems.

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Ensure effective leadership across multi-shift teams maintaining a focus on internal customer delivery.
  • Ensure implementation and monitoring of daily management system (SQCDIP)
  • Enforce and adhere to leader standard work.
  • Foster a positive and productive work environment.
  • Develop and maintain Risk Assessments SOP (standard operating procedures) and overall 4M (ManMethodMaterialMachine)
  • Manage daily TACT vs TAKT performance
  • Ensure schedule adherence to plan.
  • Manage Ageing and WIP accuracy.
  • Manage system and floor accuracy.
  • Manage utilization and use of MES system by the shopfloor.
  • Ensure that all material movements are fully posted before the count system data such as BOMs routings and WIP are accurate and clear cutoff rules are communicated to prevent uncontrolled transactions Wellprepared count sheets disciplined physical counting of raw materials consumables and WIP by stage followed by immediate reconciliation of variances through rootcause analysis of issues like incorrect postings BOM errors or mismanaged stock and concludes with accurate variance reporting and corrective actions that strengthen master data stock controls and future stock take processes.

Technical Development:

  • Support the technical development of the Foundry including yield improvements new parts and material industrialisation

Leadership

  • Adherence to all statutory SHE and housekeeping requirements
  • Adhere to Duty of Care Policy at all times

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Operations Management/Metallurgy/Mechanical/Industrial
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a foundry or manufacturing environment.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Proven track record of implementing safety and quality assurance practices.
  • Experience with ISO 9001: 2008 quality assurance systems.
  • Familiarity with Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85: 1993) compliance.
  • Experience in process improvement and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Knowledge of budget management and resource allocation
  • Knowledge of MES (Manufacturing Execution System) for WIP control.
