ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
Reports to: Principal of Leominster High School
Overview of Position:
The Athletic Director leads organizes supervises and evaluates the K - 12 athletic teams and student
activities. The Director who reports to the principal of LHS is responsible for the overall administration
of the athletic program including logistics finances equipment and curriculum issues. This is an FLSA
exempt position with intermittent weekend holiday and evening responsibilities.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Evaluates coaches annually.
2. Oversees academic and medical requirements of student athletes.
3. Ensures compliance with all MIAA rules reporting requirements and communications.
4. Responsible for preparation of an annual budget for the athletic program and oversees the
bidding ordering and distribution of all athletic activities maintains equipment and supplies.
5. Serves on various advisory and project committees as requested and required.
6. Arranges for transportation related to athletic activities maximizing the number of teams that can
travel together to minimize travel cost.
7. Schedules games fields gyms or other facilities buses. officials timekeepers and all other
matters necessary for the efficient operation of the athletic programs.
8. Oversees the safety and security of athletic events and facilities.
9. Coordinates student athlete records and awards.
10. Interacts with City of Leominster officials parents students and community members on issues
relating to the athletic department.
11. Coordinates Athletic Council to meet a minimum of three times each year.
12. Coordinates mandatory parent meeting prior to each sports season.
13. Runs a Captains Council.
14. Promote yearly workshops for every athlete on good sportsmanship and fair play and drug
and alcohol education steroid information and harassment.
15. Oversees high school physical education and health programs.
16. Helps with evaluation of all physical education and health teacher at all levels as
requested by principals.
17. Represents Leominster athletes at state and regional meetings.
18. Completes all MIAA DESE and NCAA forms and paperwork as required.
Education Certifications Skills and Experience:
1. Licensure as Supervisor/Director or Administrator with the Massachusetts Department of
Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
2. Teaching/Coaching experience
3. Three years school administration/instructional leadership
4. Demonstrated organizational educational leadership and creative problem-solving skills
5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and School Committee
may find appropriate and acceptable
Personal Characteristics:
1. Ability to work under the pressure of multiple simultaneous tasks. including the ability to
prioritize manage and organize own workload.
2. Ability to work collaboratively with faculty staff parents and other citizens and
representatives of organizations.
3. Participative work style; ability to give and receive feedback.
Evaluation of Performance Terms of Employment and Salary:
Evaluation terms of employment and salary are governed by the provisions of the Agreement currently in
effect with the Leominster Administrative Unit (Unit B). Salary commensurate with related experience.
