Scope: The Chapter Coordinator is responsible for outreach and training to support Chapter volunteers and interns office management and administrative functions. The Coordinator must be informed and organized and be able to respond accurately and promptly to questions from volunteers members and the general public. The Coordinator must be able to maintain databases and support outreach activities and trainings to facilitate the success of grassroots educational and legislative organizing. The Coordinator performs administrative and general office duties coordinates Chapter activities and meetings interacts with and trains volunteers supports volunteer systems responds to routine inquiries from members volunteers and the general public.

The North Star Chapter has more than 50 years of experience leading grassroots campaigns to explore enjoy and protect our state. We are 50000 Minnesotans empowered to protect our communities well-being through environmental advocacy.

This position is crucially important to the success of the chapters climate environmental justice and conservation campaigns educational efforts and fundraising programs.

Job activities include but are not limited to:

    • Support volunteer teams and increase chapter capacity via volunteer development and growth. Present and coordinate trainings and improve systems to welcome new volunteers. Create regular welcoming spaces for volunteers to take action.
    • Coordinate and participate in outreach activities may include tabling and clip boarding.
    • Coordinate and participate in activities to support chapter priorities including phone banking text banking and general activist events.
    • Maintain & train volunteer leaders on databases and best practices. This includes maintaining and managing mailing/phone/text lists activist lists donors etc. Assisting or training volunteers and staff with routine data entry and updating data systems including Salesforce VAN and Sierra Clubs internal systems such as Campfire and LEADERS. This includes the handling of sensitive financial and personnel information.
    • As needed assist in maintaining chapter website social media and email communications in collaboration with staff volunteers and contractors.
    • Provide clerical and administrative support. Coordinates volunteers reception mail systems filing purchasing and maintaining office supplies and equipment maintaining materials inventory and ensuring office space is functional and usable for volunteers. Review and route incoming mail. Maintain and coordinate tabling supplies. Answer the general phone line and email inbox; respond to routine inquiries from Sierra Club members and the community; maintain and update shared calendars.
    • Provide basic bookkeeping duties including processing of payables and received donations. Provide general support for fundraising activities as needed.
    • Some evening and weekend work is required.

    • Committed to evolution. You are committed to continuously deepening and evolving your own understanding of systems of oppression through study openness and humility. And you easily recognize your own relationship to privilege and power examining and shifting your behaviors as appropriate.

    • Operational administration. You are able to learn and follow operational practices and you have excellent judgment on when an exception warrants escalation.

    • Proficient in paper and digital tools. You use or can learn Salesforce Google Drive email and video conferencing tools to perform the requirements of a hybrid workplace.

    • Volunteer Management. You know how to welcome train and retain volunteers to support chapter functions.
    • Organizing experience. You have experience with grassroots organizing.

    • Strategic Planning. You engage in strategic planning for the chapter and can interpret how the Sierra Clubs strategic framework influences your priorities.
$52000 - $62000 a year
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $52000 to $62000 annually.

This position is represented by a collective bargaining unit and is subject to the terms and conditions of the contract between Sierra Club and Progressive Workers Union.

The Sierra Club offers a competitive salary package commensurate with skills and experience plus excellent benefits that include medical dental and vision coverage and a retirement savings 401(k) plan.

This is a category 6 non-exempt represented position.
