DescriptionFacilities Maintenance Mechanic Apprenticeship program is a 2-year program that incorporates at minimum 288 hours of classroom instruction and 4000 hours of on-the-job training under the guidance of a mentor. Role will perform work involving two or more maintenance or craft occupations to keep mechanical equipment building systems grounds and the structure of the establishment in good repair.
- Classes would start in August 2026.
Monday - Friday 6:30AM to 2:30PM
Key Responsibilities:
- Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools such as hammers hoists saws drills and wrenches to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices
- Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly building systems operate efficiently or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate
- Inspect operate or test machinery or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions
- Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them checking blueprints repair manuals or parts catalogs as necessary
- Assemble install or repair wiring electrical or electronic components pipe systems plumbing machinery or equipment
- Inspect drives motors and belts check fluid levels replace filters or perform other maintenance actions following checklists
- Clean or lubricate shafts bearings gears or other parts of machinery
- Help to keep stock items in inventory.
- Maintain all records of repairs made to equipment.
- Adjust functional parts of devices or control instruments using hand tools levels plumb bobs or straightedges
- Acquire and maintain certification to operate forklifts and aerial lifts.
- Provide the customer with the best value including Cost Quality and Delivery.
- Participate in improving our product processes equipment and methods.
- Repair or replace defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools and reassemble equipment
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment at all times.
- Make out purchase requisitions for repair parts and replacement stock items.
- Performs all reasonably related duties as assigned.
- Reasonable accommodation will be made at the beginning of the apprenticeship to provide tools for the employee to use/borrow during their on-the-job training.
- However the employee will be required to purchase and maintain their own tools required of this position by then end of the program.

- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Strong attention to detail
- Mechanically inclined
- Ability to attend classes offsite

Requirements of the Apprenticeship:
- Apprentice must register with the DOL through West Michigan Works!
- Apprentice must register with GRCC or another colleges Apprentice/Work-Study Program
- Apprentices must be enrolled in at least one class a semester to remain active in the apprenticeship.
- Apprentice must complete all required coursework within the 2-Year Maintenance Apprenticeship Program.
- Apprentices must pass each class with a minimum grade of C to stay in the apprenticeship program. a. If a C grade is not achieved the class must be retaken at the cost of the employee
- Apprentices must keep record of all tasks worked to meet the on-the-job training requirements
- All regular conditions of employment policies and procedures apply to the apprentice.
- Apprentices will work with their supervisor to balance school and on the job time.
- Apprentices will be paid for their time on-the-job at Plascore in addition to time spent in the classroom (NTE 40 hours/week). A copy of the employees class schedule and teachers information will be provided to the Facilities Manager.
- Payment of Classes (in order of disbursement)
- Apprentice shall work with financial aid for any scholarships or tuition credits
- State Funded Grant Dollars will cover $1000/year
- Plascores Educational Assistance Program will cover up to $5000 per year
- Anything beyond that will be the responsibility of the employee

Additional Requirements:
- Must be eligible to work on programs subject to ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations).
