Melt Furnace Operator

Consider joining the Pennex team as a Melt Furnace Operator. This position is Night shift from 7 PM to 7 AM. As a Furnace operator you have a crucial role as operating the furnace and ensuring the proper functioning of the Furnace equipment maintaining optimal operating conditions and producing high quality products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Loads scrap prime and other metals into furnace to achieve proper molten aluminum alloy utilizing appropriate mobile equipment.
• Stirs metal bath with steel rake attached to a forklift.
• Removes dross by-product from molten bath with steel rake attached to a forklift in a skimming action minimizing amount of aluminum removed and maximizing the amount of dross removed.
• Loads dross pots into dross snuffers/coolers using forklift. Empties dross pots when cooled.
• Draws samples using ladle. After analysis manually adds appropriate alloying materials are re-stirs molten bath.
• Performs preventive maintenance on all mobile equipment used in the department at the start of each shift.
• Removes impurity gases from bath utilizing argon or nitrogen SF6.
• Cleans pipes with compressed air after finishing degassing operation.
• Assists with cast run-up and shutdown.
• Stages next charge by bringing prime scrap and dealer scrap into charging area.
• Keeps furnace area free from debris putting scrap in appropriate places.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent

Experience

• 2 to 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Prior forklift experience.

Other Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write simple reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively in one-on-one situations to foremen other crew members and supervisor.
• Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals.
• Ability to apply understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Must possess a valid Forklift Operators license and have prior forklift experience.
• Must be able to operate overhead crane.
• Must complete Molten Metal training.
• Must be able to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States visa sponsorships are not available.
• Must have regular attendance.
