Job Summary

Description

Reporting to the Tenant Services Supervisor the Electrician ensures the safe and reliable operation of electrical lighting and life safety systems across facilities operated by Strathcona County. This role provides subject matter expertise to support compliance with applicable codes and standards performs preventative maintenance and repairs and mentors staff to promote best practices in facility management and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Service and install electrical distribution equipment in municipal buildings ensuring all installations meet safety codes and regulations
  • Troubleshoot and repair broken or malfunctioning electrical systems and equipment
  • Diagnose and repair facility life safety (e.g. fire alarm) systems
  • Maintain accurate records of preventative maintenance tasks and repairs assignments across different departments or municipal facilities
  • Respond promptly to urgent issues to minimize service disruptions in municipal operations
  • Troubleshoot diagnose and repair malfunctioning lighting fixtures ballasts drivers and control systems
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance to ensure lighting systems remain safe efficient and in good working order
  • Replace worn damaged or obsolete components to maintain optimal system performance and energy efficiency
  • Inspect repair and maintain single- and three-phase motors motor control centres (MCCs) starters and drives
  • Conduct scheduled inspections testing and continuity checks to ensure reliability and operational safety
  • Provide emergency electrical services during regular business hours and participate in after-hours response as required
  • Respond promptly to urgent service calls to minimize disruptions to municipal operations and public services
  • Ensure all work complies with the Canadian Electrical Code Alberta Building Code and Alberta Fire Code including proper documentation and permitting
  • Maintain up-to-date records repairs installation and permits
  • Ensure all electrical and life safety system tasks are compliant with relevant safety standards and building codes
  • Complete timely and accurate updates within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices within the electrical industry
  • Lead training sessions or workshops as Subject Matter Expert as it relates to electrical and life safety systems


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Journeyperson Electrician Certification
  • Minimum 5 years working in a related facility environment with similar job responsibilities
  • Master Electrician would be an asset
  • Mandatory Fire alarm Pin Number
  • Computer knowledge including Microsoft Word Excel Outlook and Teams and experience working with an online asset management program is an asset
  • Good understanding of Computer Maintenance Management Systems
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to follow safe work practices for work
  • Strong interpersonal time management skills and the ability to withstand pressure


Conditions of Employment:

  • Submission of a Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Drivers licence and submission of a 5-year Drivers Abstract with less than 7 demerits
  • Ability to work from heights work on roofs travel stairs lift heavy items (50lbs) and work in awkward or confined areas for an extended period of time
