Position Summary
The CNC Operator is responsible for operating computer numerical control (CNC) machinery to produce precision components in line with engineering specifications. The role includes machine setup material loading monitoring machining operations quality inspection and routine maintenance. Operators may also assist with CNC programming tooling selection and process optimisation to support efficient and highquality production.
Key Responsibilities
CNC Operation & Production
- Operate CNC machines to manufacture components according to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Set up machines tooling fixtures and materials accurately before production.
- Monitor machining operations and adjust settings to maintain accuracy surface finish and efficiency.
- Inspect finished components using precision measuring tools to ensure dimensional compliance.
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and attention to detail throughout the machining process.
Technical & Programming Support
- Assist with CNC programming and program adjustments when required.
- Interpret engineering drawings blueprints and CAM data to support accurate machining.
- Troubleshoot machining issues including tool wear machine faults or programming inconsistencies.
Maintenance & Safety
- Perform routine machine maintenance including lubrication cleaning and basic repairs.
- Follow all workplace health and safety procedures and use required PPE.
- Maintain a clean organised and hazardfree work environment.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with engineers supervisors and production teams to meet project timelines and quality standards.
- Communicate clearly regarding production progress technical challenges and workflow requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and process optimisation.
Tasks and Duties
- Set up CNC machinery load tools install fixtures and input machine parameters.
- Load and secure raw materials such as metal wood or composite stock.
- Perform machining operations including milling turning drilling and grinding.
- Verify machine performance speeds feeds and tool paths during production.
- Measure components using micrometers calipers gauges or CMM equipment.
- Adjust offsets or tooling as required to maintain accuracy.
- Document setup sheets program changes inspection results and maintenance activities.
- Participate in site inductions safety briefings and training as required.
Qualifications and Skills
Essential
- Trade qualification in CNC machining fitting and turning or a related mechanical trade OR minimum three (3) years of relevant CNC operating experience.
- Strong technical proficiency in CNC machine operation and machining processes.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Understanding of CNC programming languages (Gcode Mcode).
- Competence in using precision measuring tools (micrometers calipers gauges).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic machine maintenance.
- Proven problemsolving and troubleshooting skills.
- Commitment to workplace health and safety.
- Physical capability to handle materials and stand for extended periods.
- Valid drivers licence.
