Job Summary
The Director of School Nursing provides strategic leadership administrative oversight and clinical supervision for the districts comprehensive health services program. This role ensures that all students in North Andover Public Schools (Pre-K through Grade 12) have access to high-quality healthcare that supports their academic success. The Director is responsible for the supervision of all school nurses budget management regulatory compliance and the integration of health-related policies into the districts educational mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Leadership & Supervision
- Staff Oversight: Recruit hire orient and evaluate all school nurses and health office support staff.
- Clinical Consultation: Serve as the primary clinical resource for nursing staff regarding complex medical cases student health care plans and emergency protocols.
- Professional Development: Identify plan and execute district-wide professional development for nursing staff to maintain licensure and stay current with best practices.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct regular site visits to school health offices to ensure standardized care and compliance with state and local regulations.
- Administrative & Strategic Management
- Budgeting: Develop and manage the Health Services annual budget including the procurement of medical supplies and the management of grant funds (e.g. Comprehensive School Health Services grant).
- Policy Development: In collaboration with the School Physician and District Leadership develop and update health-related policies (e.g. medication administration immunization requirements and communicable disease protocols).
- Data Management: Oversee the districts Electronic Health Record (EHR) system ensuring accurate data collection for state reporting and internal analysis of health trends.
- Community & District Collaboration
- Liaison Duties: Act as the primary liaison between NAPS and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) local Boards of Health and community healthcare providers.
- Wellness Committee: Serve as a key member of the District Wellness Committee to promote a healthy school environment.
- Emergency Preparedness: Collaborate with district safety leadership and local first responders to refine Medical Emergency Response Plans (MERP).
Qualifications & Requirements
- Licensure: * Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Massachusetts.Massachusetts DESE licensure as a School Nurse (required) and Supervisor/Director (preferred or attainable within a specified timeframe).
- Education: * Masters Degree in Nursing Public Health Health Administration or a related field.
- Experience: * Minimum of 57 years of clinical nursing experience with at least 3 years in a school health setting. Prior experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a healthcare or educational environment.
- Skills: * Deep knowledge of MA General Laws regarding school health and medication delegation. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with parents staff and medical professionals. Proficiency in medical data management software and Microsoft Office Suite/Google Workspace.
Working Conditions
- Work is primarily performed in an office and school environment.
- Requires local travel between district school buildings.
- May require attendance at evening School Committee meetings or community health forums.
