This Intern- Risk position has two available FTE. 1 will be in the Risk department 100% of the time and 1 will be a 50/50 split between the Risk and Legal department. If you have a preference please indiate that in your cover letter.
Risk department Intern
Primarily responsible for observing and participating in applicable Risk projects and activities including interviews/walkthroughs risk and control analysis investigations auditing and monitoring testing and documentation. Possesses basic knowledge of risk/compliance/audit/investigative strategies methodologies and tools. Beginning to comprehend industry accounting legal regulatory compliance and/or internal audit standards as applicable. Works collaboratively in a team structure on multi-disciplinary projects developing project management skills and leveraging tools. The intern will be given selected work assignments to reinforce the learning experience to assess the performance levels and to provide benefit to the work unit. Risk/Legal Intern
This internship position will be structured as a 50/50 rotation between Risk and Legal addition to supporting Risk projects and initiatives the intern will actively observe and participate in selected Legal Department matters to gain exposure to healthcare legal operations regulatory compliance litigation and risk management functions.
Under the direction and supervision of Legal and Risk colleagues the intern may assist with legal and risk-related activities including but not limited to: conducting legal research; reviewing organizing and analyzing documents; supporting contract and policy review processes; tracking and summarizing regulatory litigation compliance and risk management matters; maintaining logs or databases related to claims disputes and other legal matters; and drafting or organizing correspondence memoranda reports or reference materials.
The intern may also participate in litigation and pre-litigation activities claims analysis and broader risk management initiatives to develop an understanding of dispute resolution processes and organizational risk mitigation strategies. These assignments are designed to reinforce academic learning cultivate sound professional judgment and provide a foundational understanding of how the Legal and Risk functions collaborate to protect and support Mayo Clinic entities
The applicant should be enrolled in an associate bachelors masters or graduate degree in Law Healthcare Business Administration Information Technology Information Security Finance Accounting. Criminal Justice or other applicable field. Applicants should be returning to their degree granting program in the fall of 2026.
Desktop computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is expected. Familiarization with IT general controls basic technical and accounting concepts/functions professional writing/communication skills and exposure to data analysis tools is helpful.
Ad-hoc travel may be required as work activities warrant (e.g. team on-site meetings and/or training).
Preference will be given to those who are currently attending Mitchell-Hamline law school.
