Because of the temporary nature of these appointments Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular Board of Regents (BOR) and Civil Service employees (i.e. paid holidays/leave). Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

Duties:

Under the general supervision of the Director of the Kipuka Native Hawaiian Student Center at the University of Hawaii

at Hilo the Student Development Coordinator supports the daily operations and student engagement efforts of Hale Lako.


  1. Plan coordinate and implement student engagement events and outreach activities that increase awareness of Hale Lako services resources and basic needs support available to UH Hilo students.
  2. Support the day-to-day operations of Hale Lako by assisting with staffing coordinating food and essential supplies and ensuring the facility remains accessible to students during scheduled hours.
  3. Collaborate with Kipuka staff and campus partners to promote Hale Lako through tabling events and campus-wide initiatives.
  4. Perform other related duties as assigned in support of the goals of the Kipuka Native Hawaiian Student Center and Hale Lako.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in any field from an accredited university and 1 year of progressively responsible professional experience in student support in higher education and/or responsibilities for working with basic needs initiatives or food security programs; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of or experience with basic needs initiatives food security programs or student support services in a higher education or community setting.
  3. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.


Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Knowledge of UH Hilo programs and services.
  2. Previous experience working in a higher education institution.
