About the Position

Springfield Public Schools seeks outstanding candidates for the position of Transition Assistant II: High School Bridge atThurston High School.

This position provides support for the most impacted 8th grade students making the transition to high school by working with school administration teachers counselors students and families. This position assists students transitioning from 8th grade to 9th grade by working with 9th grade educational teams to help develop instructional transition plans for students.

Essential Functions

Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Work directly with 9th Grade Success Specialist to ensure 9th grade students receive relevant information about high school are properly engaged in high school activities and have the supports needed to be on-track to graduate after their 9th grade year.
  • Deliver high school development activities both individually and through classroom coursework to prepare 9th graders for high school success.
  • Support certified teachers with addressing academic attendance and behavior.
  • Develops instructional transition plans for students.
  • Provide support in crisis response and de-escalation as directed by supervisors.
  • Provides school transition support to students on small group and one-to-one basis.
  • Participates in educational support teams.
  • Provides behavior management for high school aged students.
  • Provide supervision of students as assigned.
  • Assist in developing individual plans for academics attendance and socio-emotional for students.
  • Attend 9th grade success meetings at the school and state level in order to create and deliver research-based interventions to students.
  • Serve as a resource for students in finding information for academic success mental health supports drug addiction housing support and other potential needs.
  • Monitor and mentor students with school transition support needs.
  • Monitor attendance grades and assignments of students with school transition support needs.
  • Implement attendance procedures and make attendance calls to families.
  • Other related duties may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Associates degree or higher (attach diploma); OR
  • Completion of two years post-secondary study consisting of 72 credit hours 48 semester units (attach transcripts); OR
  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) AND
  • Meet a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate through a formal state or local academic assessment or para-professional certificate program knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing as appropriate reading/language arts writing and mathematics or reading readiness writing readiness and mathematics readiness.

Experience:

  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible closely related work experience.

Certificates Licenses Registration & Other Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and hold a valid First Aid/CPR card and pass Safe Schools training modules as assigned.

Desired Qualifications

  • Related experience in an educational setting.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities (May be acquired through education training and/or experience.)

Knowledge of: District policies and procedures; modern office practices and procedures; letter writing correct language usage; telephone and record keeping/filing systems; computer hardware and software programs and their usage; modern office equipment; effective supervision and behavior management methods; attendance grading and homework procedures; safety and first aid practices and procedures;

Skills to: apply student de-escalation strategies in a variety of unique situations and environments; transition smoothly from one task to another through multiple environments within a school day.

Ability to: understand and apply District and school policies and procedures; maintain appropriate office appearance and attire; greet stakeholders; maintain regular and acceptable attendance and punctuality as set forth in Board policy; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of work and from diverse backgrounds; maintain records; utilize keyboarding skills commensurate with the required functions for this position; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; utilize appropriate grammar and spelling when corresponding make mathematical calculations accurately; follow oral and written instructions; accurately research various information and prepare related reports.
