The University of Tennessee invites applications for a full-time faculty appointment as a Veterinary Anatomic Pathologist in the Department of Biomedical and Diagnostic Sciences at the College of Veterinary Medicine in Knoxville: position will be offered at the rank of assistant or associate professor in either a tenure or clinical (non-tenure) academic track dependent on the individuals qualifications and goals. The successful candidate will join a team of 8 anatomic pathologists in sharing diagnostic services teaching resident training and scholarship in support of our Colleges academic programs and referral hospital. The anatomic pathology service has a robust and diverse case load derived from our veterinary medical center referring veterinary clinics a large felid sanctuary the Knoxville Zoo local wildlife etc. providing abundant opportunities for teaching discovery and scholarship in a highly collegial and collaborative environment. The department is home to diagnostic laboratories ( in bacteriology endocrinology parasitology pathology (anatomic and clinical) virology-immunology and pharmacology providing services to the Colleges Veterinary Medical Center and referring veterinarians across the country. Faculty enjoy full access to the Universitys core research and service facilities in advanced microscopy and ultrastructural imaging genomics and biological and small molecule mass spectrometry among others. Advanced computing and modeling expertise are available through the University NIMBioS and in conjunction with Oak Ridge National Laboratory.



Qualified applicants must have: (1) a DVM (or equivalent degree) preferably from an AVMA accredited institution; (2) board certification in anatomic pathology from the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) or the European College of Veterinary Pathologists or eligibility to complete the ACVP board certification examination in 2026; (3) excellent verbal and written communication skills; and (4) the ability to work well with others in a collegial team atmosphere. Teaching experience is desirable but not required. A PhD and/or postdoctoral experience in a relevant field of biomedical research is desirable for those interested in developing an independent research program.

The successful candidate is expected to provide high quality diagnostic service participate in resident training teach professional and/or graduate students and engage in scientific discovery commensurate with their research effort allocation. Teaching responsibilities include didactic lectures in the pre-clinical veterinary curriculum instruction of clinical year veterinary students during their pathology rotation. The specific service teaching and research effort allocation is flexible depending on the candidates interests and expertise. Opportunities to serve in a leadership role are available to interested candidates.
