Who We Are:
Heritage Park is Canadas largest living history museum and offers visitors a chance to experience life in Western Canada from the 1860s to the early 1950s. The Park features historical buildings costumed interpreters working antiques and various exhibits that provide insight into the regions past.
Job Overview:
Reporting to the Education Manager and Education Program Specialist the Youth Program Lead Hand Overnight plays a key leadership role in planning delivery and evaluation of Home on the Range and other youth overnight and day programs.
This position support high-quality inclusive camp experiences by leading daily operations mentoring staff and ensuring the safety well-being and engagement of all participants.
Responsibilities:
Program Leadership & Camper Experience
- Lead and support the development and delivery of engaging youth programs and activities
- Adapt and modify activities to ensure inclusive safe and successful participation for all campers
- Foster a positive respectful and welcoming environment for campers families and caregivers
Daily Operations & Supervision
- Support day-to-day operations of youth programs including check-in and check-out
- Conduct scheduled rounds throughout the park to ensure camper safety and well-being
- Assist Youth Program Facilitators with camper supervision behavior management and individual support needs as required
- Prepare program materials and assist with program set-up and clean-up
Staff Support & Training
- Lead and assist with training orientation and ongoing mentoring of Youth Program Facilitators
- Provide guidance and leadership to ensure staff are confident prepared and supported in delivering quality programming
- Support the Youth Program Facilitator Overnight role when required due to unforeseen circumstances
Administrative & Departmental Support
- Assist the Education Department with administrative tasks as needed
- Contribute to an end-of-season report reflecting on program outcomes and camper experiences
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Organizational Excellence and Wellbeing
- Contribute to inspiring and immersive experiences at the Park through your roles and responsibilities by engaging in Heritage Park initiatives that align with the overall mission and vision of the Park
- Demonstrate commitment to workplace health and safety by complying with Heritage Parks Health Safety and Environment Management System (HSEMS) following safe work practices reporting work-related incidents injuries and hazards participating in employer training and adhering policies including the Code of Conduct and the Workplace Violence and Harassment Policy
- Actively support a positive work environment by creating an atmosphere of inclusion engagement and fulfillment in line with Heritage Park values
- Demonstrate responsible stewardship of our people collections and financial assets by ensuring that they are handled with integrity sustainability and a focus on long-term benefits for the organization and its stakeholders
Required Qualifications:
- Completion of secondary education required; post-secondary education in a related field (Education Western Canadian History Recreation etc.) is considered an asset
- Previous experience working with children in a youth program camp or similar setting is required
- Experience supporting children with special needs is considered an asset
- Standard First Aid and CPR certification required (training provided by the Park if not already certified)
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise mentor and support peers
- Enthusiastic reliable and passionate about working with children and youth
- Excellent organizational interpersonal and communication skills in a client-facing environment
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced dynamic setting
- Flexible adaptable and solutions-oriented
- All successful candidates must be over the age of 18 and will be required to go through a Police Information Check as a condition of employment.
Special Clothing and Equipment:
- Appropriate costuming and safety equipment will be provided by Heritage Park;
- Footwear as designated by the Heritage Park Costume Department will be provided by the employee.
Special Working Conditions:
- The position will be exposed to weather extremes and will work both indoors and outdoors;
- This position is physically demanding and the incumbent must be able to lift heavy items stand for long periods and walk throughout the Park for extended periods.
Hours of Work:
- Hours will vary depending on operational needs
- The schedule will generally be five consecutive days per week (Monday to Friday); and
- Evenings and overnights may be required
