The Harborview Kidney/Dialysis Departmenthas an outstanding opportunity for a Lead Dialysis Technician.

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Full-Time / 40 hours per week

  • Rotating/Variable Shifts

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Work under the direction of the unit registered nurse supervisor or manager to support the safe and effective delivery of patient care

  • This position oversees and manages other Dialysis Technicians and participates in the orientation of Dialysis Technician trainees and other medical staff

  • Strong candidates will have a Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) certified from a national accreditation organization.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assemble prepare prime and set up dialysis equipment and materials in the dialysis lab and at patient bedside according to nephrology orders.

  • Maintain current knowledge of operation procedures and maintenance of new equipment.

  • Coordinate with Nursing Staff to determine prioritization and timeliness of procedures.

  • Couple patients to dialysis machines monitor treatment observe patient tolerance to treatment and report changes to physician and/or RN make equipment adjustments to avoid adverse patient effects adjust apparatus parameters based on patient conditions.

  • Reprocess and disinfect hemodialysis equipment per policy and procedure.

  • Aseptically dispense dialysis solution to include calculating measuring pre-weight of dry chemicals and verifying through chemical analysis for accuracy.

  • Make changes in dialysis composition by compounding any additions such as potassium calcium urea and magnesium.

  • Prepare and mix bicarbonate solution for patient use.

  • Participate in on-call coverage rotation for urgent dialysis set-ups outside laboratory business hours.

REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

An Associates Degree with emphasis in chemistry biology or medical sciences AND three years experience in a medical laboratory to include one year in a dialysis/pheresis laboratory at the level of Dialysis/Pheresis Technician.

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements such as a license certification and/or registration.
