Nature of Work

The fundamental reason that this position existsis to provide carpentry support to crews working for the constructionmaintenance and repair of City properties. Incumbents are responsible forperforming skilled carpentry tasks in accordance with standard practices of thetrade. They perform skilled hand and bench carpentry duties including operatingpower-driven equipment and using hand tools. Their assignments are received inthe form of oral or written instructions sketches or blueprints from asupervisor. Work is reviewed by inspection during work process or uponcompletion of assignment for compliance with specifications and standards. Thedistinguishing characteristics of this classification within the series includeresponsibility for performing journey-level work. Carpenter I incumbents arelearning the trade and typically do not yet possess the proficiency requiredof a Carpenter II incumbent. Direct supervision is received from the BuildingConstruction Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED and one (1) year of experience in rough and/or finished carpentry work.

NOTE:Qualifying education training and experience that provide the requisiteknowledge skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Must be willing to work weekends or long hoursfor emergencies or special City be willing to work from heights in order to complete carpentrywork. Willingness to work in poor weather conditions when required to performcarpentry work.

Kind of Examination
