Job Description:

Madison College is seeking a TRIO Associate Advisor. This position serves as an entry point into professional advising and student support services providing individualized coaching academic advising and case management to support TRIO students in enrollment persistence and retention. The TRIO Associate Advisor works closely with students to build supportive relationships help them navigate academic and personal challenges develop essential academic and financial literacy skills and connect to campus and community resources.

Through proactive outreach coordinated programming and collaboration across departments this role promotes student motivation informed decision-making and holistic success while referring students to the Senior Academic Advisors for more specialized or program-specific guidance as needed. Grounded in Madison Colleges commitment to equity and student success this position contributes directly to improved retention stronger academic outcomes and a more inclusive and supportive college experience for TRIO students.

Position Details:

Schedule: This is a full-time hourly position. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday during core business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to support events and programming. This role offers the option to work remotely 12 days per week subject to change in accordance with Madison College policy.

Grant Funded: This is a grant-funded renewable position through September 30 2026. Continued employment is contingent upon ongoing grant funding but it is expected to renew.

Accountabilities:

  • Builds supportive relationships with students to assess strengths identify academic goals and uncover barriers that may impact success.

  • Promotes student persistence by teaching academic success strategies and guiding students in developing action plans tailored to their individual needs.

  • Connects students with campus and community resources to support holistic well-being and reduce barriers to academic achievement.

  • Responds to faculty alerts and student concerns by providing timely outreach and follow-up to address academic and engagement challenges.

  • Delivers case management and retention support through proactive monitoring early intervention and referrals to resources to address barriers to student success.

  • Offers accessible coaching through financial literacy education and other workshops classroom visits drop-in support and individual appointments to maintain consistent student contact.

  • Provides individualized and holistic academic career and transfer advising and Personal Education Planning to support student goal-setting and interprets degree progress tools to assist students in making informed enrollment decisions such as course selection and educational planning.

  • Documents advising interactions and tracks student outreach to support coordinated care and inform retention efforts.

  • May provide program coordination and event management including determining event and programming needs scheduling facilitating acquiring resources and providing project management oversight for programs or events.

  • Contributes to an inclusive equitable and supportive environment where everyone at the institution feels valued respected and empowered to reach their full potential.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of academic advising principles such as course planning transfer pathways and student support strategiesstudent development theory academic advising practices and factors influencing student retention and success.

  • Knowledge of campus and community resources that support students academic financial and personal well-being.

  • Skill in applying case management strategies to support students navigating academic personal or financial challenges.

  • Skill in building rapport and engaging with students.

  • Skill in assessing student needs and applying advising techniques.

  • Ability to document interactions and maintain accurate records.

  • Ability to manage multiple processes meet deadlines and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.

  • Skill in engaging positively with all populations and communities contributing to a safe and inclusive learning and work environment.

  • Skill in effectively and respectfully communicating with others.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education:
    Associate degree required. Bachelors degree preferred.

  • Experience:
    Two to four plus years of relevant progressive work experience.
