Senior Communications Engineer Defence Delivery

The opportunity

Saab Australia is an industry participant in the Combat Systems Integration Integrated Project Team (CSI-IPT) Collaboration Agreement (CSI-IPT CCA). The CSI-IPT CCA forms a collaborative enterprise organisation to execute scopes of work across Hobart Class Destroyer (SEA4000 Phase 6 and other related Destroyer Capability Enhancement (DCE) upgrades) and the Hunter Class Frigates (HCFs - SEA5000 Phase 1). This will see independently executed programs such as SEA4000 Phase 6 and SEA5000 Phase 1 brought under one umbrella enterprise organisation the CSI-IPT.

The CSI-IPT will be built up with personnel from three industry participants and the Commonwealth of Australia (CoA) to form a collaborative team working across multiple programs to leverage synergies between platforms.

The role

As part of our Defence Delivery Organisation the CSI-IPT Senior Communications Engineer will work with suppliers and OEMs to define and agree the solutions for individual subsystems within the overall communications system including the design of the installation on the platform. They will also participate with and provide support to other areas of the platform design team.

Further the successful candidate will:

• Work with suppliers to guide solutions and to define interfaces to the platform and other subsystems
• Maintain functional and physical data in the platform architecture framework
• Be the subject matter expert for individual subsystems
• Produce technical Equipment Specifications for communication subsystems
• Provide updates to the systems model in systems architect or similar tool
• Maintain requirements in DOORS
• Provide updates to products and documentation in the configuration management tool
• Produce bill of materials.

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and a 9-day fortnight will be considered for this role.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

• System engineering including integration test and V&V
• Military communications RAN or RN communications voice/data/radio products (desirable)
• Knowledge of appropriate engineering development methodologies and strategies
• Supplier technical management and/or liaison
• Concise and effective verbal and written communication skills
• Good understanding of the engineering processes and tools used on the Hunter Class Frigate project (DOORS System Architect or similar Windchill or similar)
• Knowledge of applicable NATO / US communications standards (desirable)
• Good understanding of Import/Export control processes (e.g. ITAR etc.).

Applicants will be required to hold an Australian defence security clearance to at least NV1 or have the ability to gain one. Information including past and present nationality and citizenship may be requested to check eligibility for access to materials controlled under various export control regimes including ITAR.
