Job Summary

Department Overview

The Pediatric Therapy Manager is responsible for service delivery quality improvement and financial performance in the acute care and pediatric rehabilitation program. The Pediatric Therapy Manager is responsible for leadership training and supervision of Occupational Therapists Physical Therapists Speech Language Pathologists Licensed Massage Therapists and Therapy aides as assigned. Personnel decisions in this position include employee selection performance evaluation discipline and retention. These decisions directly affect the fiscal performance of the department as well as its effectiveness and efficiency. Patient care related decisions including staffing problem solving monitoring of productivity and coordination with internal and external customers for engagement collaborative programs and service excellence. This position is influential in promoting recovery and customer satisfaction with the patients served. The total department staff is approximately 30 employees.

Function/Duties of Position

Operations:

  • Monitors capacity management - patient volume and flow and providers time utilization
  • Investigate patient and provider complaints
  • Demonstrates knowledge of national and state practice acts CMS and Oregon Administrative Rules
  • Exhibits clear understanding of Medicare guidelines for therapy services
  • Demonstrates continuing education in personnel management and appropriate clinical and healthcare management skills.
  • Promote service which is interdisciplinary evidenced based and effective

Personnel Management

  • Directs supervision of all assigned staff. Interviews hires ensures orientation training and competency of employees under ownsupervision
  • Coordinates with Human Resources for recruitment and required processing of position changes
  • Communicates performance expectations develops work plans and takes disciplinary actions for performance issues
  • Monitors successful completion of competencies propose salary increases assigns and approves work
  • Analyzes scheduling efficiency productivity and coordinates with director and teams in problem solving. Provides follow up toimprove variances.
  • Assists employees with problem identification and resolution
  • Builds and supports staff engagement

Finance and Budget:

  • Prepares & monitors budgets
  • Maintains equipment and space inventories
  • Maintains working knowledge of rehab specific billing processes coordinating changes to ensure appropriate patient

Quality and Performance Improvement:

  • Participates leads and coordinates continuous quality improvement which enhances clinical practice the administrativeprocess and development of staff so that value-added servicesare provided.
  • Assures communication to and from administration and other disciplines to service line. Partners with physicians and otherdisciplines in the achievement of patient care goals.
  • Adheres to OHSU Code of Conduct and all Hospital Clinic and Rehabilitation Therapy Services Policy and Procedures
  • Participates as a member of the departmental compliance program
  • Maintains core competencies and demonstrates continuous application of these skills throughout the period of employment.

Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Masters Degree or higher
  • Physical Occupational or Speech Therapist with current Oregon licensure; 5 years experience in the field of physical therapy speech therapy or occupational therapy and at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Valid licensure and certification in Physical Therapy Speech-Language Pathology or Occupational Therapy

Job Related KnowledgeSkills and Abilities(Competencies):

  • Experience in the management of therapy staff including training promoting and disciplining.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Strong skills in problem solving prioritization decision making and time management.
  • Understanding of therapy team dynamics and ability to positively impact the work environment.
  • Adept with computer applications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Healthcare administration/business management coursework or degree
  • Pediatric care experience
  • Experience in a union environment

Additional Details

Office work schedule associated with leadership in a clinical setting; i.e. may require long hours to achieve timely completion of work products.

  • Occasional business travel for operations or education reasons.
  • Subject to computer work for several hours as needed.
  • May be expected to utilize all patient care equipment and office equipment within work area.
