Leadership Trainers facilitate and deliver a high-quality Counsellor in Training program helping youth develop leadership theory knowledge and the skills required to become a Day Camp Counsellor. The role provides guidance coaching and mentorship to participants while maintaining a safe and positive camp environment. The role collaborates with staff to plan prepare and coordinate program activities that align with YMCA objectives including participating in one four-night overnight experience per month to support youth leadership development.
In this role you will:
- Ensure daily and weekly YMCA camp program plans are completed and approved by the Camp Director aligning programs with the objectives of the leadership modules and workshops
- Deliver and facilitate high-quality leadership programming
- Provide leadership to youth by monitoring coaching mentoring and providing ongoing feedback including performance appraisals at the end of the program
- Plan and prepare for upcoming programs during off-weeks assist with break coverage or staff absences and support the Camp Director as needed
- Role model behaviour management strategies and promote discussion and problem-solving within groups to best meet the needs of campers
- Ensure youth are safely supervised and supported at all times providing opportunities for success and leadership development
- Attend all staff trainings and meetings arrive on time and actively participate to contribute to the development of all camp staff
- Demonstrate a high level of accountability and act as a positive active and inclusive role model within the staff team
- Participate enthusiastically in all camp programs with campers including recreational swim
- Ensure Health and Safety procedures are followed and maintained and contribute to the cleaning safety and maintenance of camp sites
- Act as a positive role model for campers and fellow staff by embodying YMCA values policies procedures Day Camp guidelines and Ontario Camping Association standards
- Perform other duties as assigned
You bring:
- Completed or currently enrolled in post-secondary education preferred
- Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification required by the first day of employment and valid until at least the last day of the contract
- Minimum 1 year experience working in a camp environment
- Experience delivering leadership programming or workshops for youth
- Experience with YMCA Day Camps is an asset
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment
- Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with families staff and volunteers
- Excellent communication skills and ability to lead a group of children
- Commitment to diversity equity inclusion and building a sense of belonging
