POSITION OVERVIEW
The Vice President of Engagement at the International Living Future Institute (Living Future) is a key leader who leads the strategy and vision for engagement with our movement overseeing a diverse team and set of programs and serving as a key relationship-builder for the organization. Overseeing the Engagement Team is a role that focuses on creating and maintaining programs that effectively engage individuals and organizations in the mission and philosophy of Living Future while ensuring revenue growth and operational efficiency. The Engagement Team is composed of leaders who manage our Membership Program Education Program Events Ecotone Publishing and Marketing and who work in collaboration with the other Teams at Living Future (Buildings Materials Just and Operations) to help advance progress towards a regenerative built world.
The VP of Engagement is accountable for strategy execution and revenue generation for our Engagement programs including marketing (website social media etc) an 800-1000 person annual conference a growing international membership community an online education program and a small publishing house. The role is also a key external face for the organization managing key client relationships and ensuring their continued engagement (philosophical and financial) in our programs. This role also sets and is accountable for the Engagement Team revenue and expenses tracking that budget and providing elegant and accurate reporting of Team impact and financial metrics to the Living Future team including the Board of Directors. The VP of Engagement will be responsible for maintaining active and effective relationships with key external stakeholders including some of our largest clients other aligned non-profits and professional associations. The VP of Engagement is also a member of the Management Team for Living Future which is the core leadership team of the organization.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Overall strategic and operational responsibility for the organizations community operations including recruitment and retention of community members member services professional development volunteer opportunities and events.
Relationship Management
- Lead the annual corporate membership and sponsorship outreach effort playing an active role in relationship building with key clients while organizing and tracking an inter-team approach to corporate engagement.
- Create and maintain strategic partnerships that grow our base and help Living Future community members grow their regenerative work and engagement with the movement
- Leverage our community to create and iterate on our engagement strategy by effectively co-creating and engaging clients as we consider adjustments to our engagement programs
- Serve as an eloquent and knowledgeable spokesperson for the organization at industry events and in strategic conversations with stakeholders.
Business Strategy
- Provide proactive strategic momentum for Engagement programs through business planning and strategy including a 2026 evaluation of our Education and Accreditation programs.
- Catalyze the development and assessment of strategies to engage members deepen community connections produce effective events and advance the profession.
- Oversee and be accountable for the brand and voice of the organization including key PR and communications leadership.
Program Oversight
- Provide leadership to the Engagement Team fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment optimized systems and thoughtful programs that strengthen our movement while providing reliable revenue for the organization.
- The role has 5 direct reports who are all at the Director level or above each overseeing substantial programs or components of the organization. The VP will provide oversight professional development and coordination for all of these individuals and their programs.
- Serve as the primary interface between Living Future and our two International Affiliate organizations Living Future Oceania and Living Future Europe along with the CEO.
- Advance diversity equity inclusion and justice via capacity-building initiatives in support of the community and the AEC industry.
- Set and maintain an annual Team budget manage expenses invoicing and reporting and ensure that the team maintains alignment with the budget through establishment of and reporting on clear objectives and key results (OKRs).
- Ultimately this role is accountable for the revenue and impact of the Engagement Team which includes membership retention and recruitment event production quality and revenue subscribers and followers and more encompassing programs that accounted for just under $2M in annual revenue in 2025.
Qualifications :
- 15 years experience in a nonprofit membership-based organization and/or sustainability-focused organization including 10 years in a leadership role with revenue responsibility in the $1-3M range
- A deep skill and affinity for professional relationship building and community building
- Demonstrated skill with business strategy financial management and people management.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and the passion and ability to encourage ideas and feedback from a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Broad knowledge of green building CSR and DEI issues trends and programs as well as familiarity with Living Futures differentiated identity and our specific programs.
- Experience with movement-building tactics including advocacy and mission-driven convening.
- Strong network and connections within the building industry as well as deep understanding of how the industry works and its various professions professional associations etc.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity equity and creating an inclusive work environment.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in a related field.
- Experience with Google Workspace Salesforce or a similar CRM platform and an ability to learn new technology platforms quickly and thoroughly.
- Experience working across virtual teams and with remote management.

The salary range for this position is $111981 to $122445 annually and is supplemented by Living Futures generous benefits package that includes employer-paid health dental and vision insurance for employees and dependents as well as employee life insurance short-term disability and a 403(b) retirement plan. Annual time off benefits include three weeks of paid annual leave 12 days of sick leave and paid volunteer time.
Living Future offers a collaborative team-oriented and mission-driven remote workplace. We offer a $50/month stipend to offset home internet costs.
