JOB DESCRIPTION

The Oral Roberts University College of Science and Engineering invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College. The next Dean will play a pivotal role in guiding the Colleges growth and strengthening its this leadership role the Dean will oversee initiatives that expand the Colleges impact locally regionally and nationally while advancing excellence in science and engineering education. This position offers an exceptional opportunity for someone dedicated to supporting faculty and inspiring students to become the next generation of innovators.

The Dean provides strategic Spirit-empowered leadership within a shared governance system and oversees all academic programs and services. Responsibilities include supporting faculty in curriculum development with faith integration research and professional growth to ensure the College remains responsive to contemporary needs and a Spirit-empowered community. This includes leading the Colleges strategy for the ethical innovative and effective use of artificial intelligence in teaching research and operations and ensuring that faculty and students are prepared to engage with emerging AI technologies.


Qualified candidates will have a proven record of effective leadership and experience in administration teaching and research as a ranked professor. The Dean will work collaboratively with faculty and students to advance curriculum and learning experiences aligned with Biblical values that strengthen science and engineering disciplines. The Dean reports to the Provost and serves in a supervisory capacity over an Administrative Assistant and the administrators in the college.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administers the College of Science and Engineering as approved by the Board of Trustees and authorized by the President and the Provost.
  • Achieves and maintains accreditation for all programs and sustains positive relationships with certifying and accrediting agencies.
  • Directs strategic planning including recommending new programs and identifying programs that should be discontinued.
  • Oversees academic assessment to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Encourages interdisciplinary activities that strengthen collaboration across departments.
  • Oversees production and revision of College publications including catalog sections and the Faculty and Administration Handbook.
  • Determines faculty needs recruits faculty and recommends individuals for appointment and promotion.
  • Leads with a mature Christian faith advancing a Christ-centered Spirit-empowered academic culture in the College
  • Models Spirit-empowered leadership through prayerful discernment ethical decision-making and a leadership approach that reflects dependence on the Holy Spirit in an interdenominational Christian community
  • Provides leadership in matters of conduct spiritual growth and professional growth for faculty members.
  • Promotes faculty research activities across the College.
  • Oversees faculty discipline and grievance procedures to ensure fair and consistent processes.
  • Actively involved in guest lecturing panel presentations team teaching or equivalent service equal to three credit hours a year or equivalent service determined by the Provost/Chief Academic Officer
  • Provides strategic leadership in the responsible integration of AI across teaching research and operational activities.
  • Supports faculty in adopting AI enhanced pedagogies advancing AI related research and ensuring compliance with institutional legal and accreditation standards.
  • Reviews and approves student petitions.
  • Meets with students to address academic concerns and support their progress.
  • Establishes an atmosphere and ethos in which quality education occurs.
  • Reviews and approves hiring and termination paperwork for department employees.
  • Assembles approves and justifies College budgets.
  • Approves purchase requisitions work orders and related requests from faculty and staff members.
  • Supervises personnel funds facilities and equipment within the College.
  • Supervises and facilitates continuing education programs within the College.
  • Seeks and maintains mutually beneficial relationships among students faculty staff administration parents academic associations educational institutions and the public.
  • Communicates College priorities to the Provost and collaborates within a shared governance structure.
  • Serves as an ex officio member of all College committees.

COMPETENCIES

Education: Requires an earned doctorate degree from a regionally and/or professionally accredited institution in a science or engineering discipline or related area.

Experience/Skills/Abilities:

  • Meets all the qualifications of a regularly appointed faculty member in the College of Science and Engineering
  • Meets the spiritual qualifications and mission fit expected of a senior professor faculty member (as described in the Faculty and Administration Handbook).
  • Requires three to five years of academic administrative experience three years of leadership experience at the college level in curriculum design and assessment and a minimum of five years of teaching experience in a baccalaureate or higher-level system.
  • Knowledge of current trends and opportunities in assessment and curriculum delivery strategies is required.
  • Must have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills; excellent analytical skills; and excellent managerial and leadership skills.
  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality of information.
  • Maintains compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) policy and its procedures.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Travel: Occasional out-of-town travel air and ground and occasional use of personal vehicle will be required. The ability and willingness to travel and work additional hours due to University needs and events is required.
