The Corporate Credit Risk Analyst / Associate will join the Corporate Credit Risk unit in BBVA Frankfurt part of the Global Risk Management team.

About the job:

The role is responsible for the analysis assessment and ongoing monitoring of corporate credit risk exposures within the DACH region taking into account the global footprint and international operations of BBVAs corporate clients.

The position requires a strong understanding of corporate business models sector dynamics and credit cycles as well as the ability to form well-reasoned and independent credit opinions. The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of corporate clients and contribute actively to credit decisions on the Global exposure and appetite of BBVA with those economic groups. The role offers progressive exposure to credit decision-making with scope to assume greater risk ownership in line with experience and performance.

Given the international nature of the portfolio the role involves regular interaction with stakeholders across EMEA LATAM the US Asia and Turkey to ensure a consistent and holistic credit view of globally active corporate groups

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform in-depth corporate credit risk analysis based on a thorough understanding of business models sector characteristics and economic and credit cycles.

  • Assess the financial strength and credit profile of corporate counterparties through integrated analysis of balance sheet structure earnings quality and cash flow sustainability.

  • Prepare and maintain internal credit ratings credit opinions and risk assessments in line with BBVAs internal methodologies and policies.

  • Prepare credit proposals and recommendations for submission to the relevant Credit Committees.

  • Present and defend credit analyses and risk views to senior internal stakeholders.

  • Actively manage and monitor a portfolio of corporate clients identifying emerging risks and proposing appropriate risk mitigation measures.

  • Ensure compliance with BBVAs risk appetite credit policies and governance standards.

  • Contribute to effective collaboration with other Risk units and business areas across BBVAs global network to support informed credit decision-making.

  • The role requires a disciplined focus on downside risk stress scenarios and the behavior of credits under adverse conditions.

What are we looking for

Academic Background and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree (BA/BSc) in Finance Business Administration Economics or a related field.

  • For Analyst level: 13 years of relevant experience in corporate credit risk.

  • For Associate level: 5 years of experience in corporate credit risk.

  • Experience gained primarily within large international banks; exposure to specialized credit institutions or boutiques focused on corporate credit risk is also valued.

  • Solid understanding of corporate credit risk processes internal rating frameworks and credit governance.

Professional and Technical Skills:

  • Strong ability to interpret and articulate the interaction between balance sheet profit and loss and cash flow statements.

  • Proven capability to assess how different corporate business models and sectors behave across economic and credit cycles.

  • Sound analytical judgment and ability to form independent credit opinions including the confidence to challenge assumptions where appropriate.

  • Business-oriented mindset with a clear focus on risk identification and mitigation within a banking environment.

  • Familiarity with internal credit systems and tools used in large banking organizations.

Languages:

  • German: C1 or higher required for professional interaction with German-speaking stakeholders and for the analysis of credit and legal documentation.

  • English: Fluent and mandatory.

  • Spanish: Highly desirable.

Language skills support but do not replace the core requirement of delivering high-quality business-driven credit risk analysis.

Soft Skills:

  • Clear and structured communication skills both written and verbal.

  • Ability to present complex credit topics concisely to senior audiences.

  • Strong organizational skills and capacity to manage multiple priorities under time pressure.

  • Proactive ethical and accountable approach to risk management.
