What You Will Be Doing:
  • Analyze Oil & Gas Tax Data: Compile and analyze monthly and annual production tax returns including payments production lease expenditures and tax credits; recommend improvements to reporting methods.
  • Develop Revenue Models: Create and maintain quantitative models for oil and gas revenue forecasting and economic analysis using tools like Excel and @RISK; projects include tax royalty price and production forecasts.
  • Conduct Economic Research: Design and interpret complex research projects applying economic theory to forecast activity; prepare reports presentations and briefing materials on petroleum revenue issues.
  • Legislative Analysis: Prepare fiscal notes revenue estimates and testify as a subject matter expert on proposed legislation affecting oil and gas revenue.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work with auditors IT professionals and other specialists to ensure accurate data analysis and modeling methodologies.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

This position is located in the Atwood Building in Anchorage.

In person work is completed in a professional office environment and while fully remote work is not an option a hybrid telework schedule may be an option once initial training is complete.

Petroleum Economist 1

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in:

  • Economics and Accounting: Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices tax law and practices the financial markets banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
  • Influencing/Negotiating: Persuades others; builds consensus through give and take; gains cooperation from others to obtain information and accomplish goals.
  • Research: Knowledge of the scientific principles methods and processes used to conduct a systematic and objective inquiry; including study design collection analysis and interpretation of data; and the reporting of results.
  • Technical Credibility: Understands and appropriately applies principles procedures requirements regulations and policies related to specialized expertise.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:

Completion of a postsecondary education program with a major emphasis in a discipline of economics accounting public or business administration petroleum engineering industrial engineering or a closely related field.

And

Progressively responsible professional experience in the collection analysis interpretation and reporting of economic scientific social science or similar data.

Professional experience means work that is creative analytical evaluative and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the professions principles concepts theories and practices; and is performed with the power or right to decide or act according to ones own judgment.

Petroleum Economist 2

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in
  • Economics and Accounting: Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices tax law and practices the financial markets banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
  • Influencing/Negotiating: Persuades others; builds consensus through give and take; gains cooperation from others to obtain information and accomplish goals.
  • Petroleum Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts principles theories and methods related to the exploration development extraction recovery processing and conservation of fluid minerals geothermal resources organic compounds or natural gas resources.
  • Research: Knowledge of the scientific principles methods and processes used to conduct a systematic and objective inquiry; including study design collection analysis and interpretation of data; and the reporting of results.
  • Technical Expertise: Effectively applies technical knowledge to solve a range of problems; develops technical solutions to new or highly complex problems that cannot be solve using existing methods or approaches; is sought out as an expert to provide advice or solutions in the technical area.

    equivalent to those typically gained by:
    A bachelors degree from an accredited college with major course emphasis in economics accounting public or business administration petroleum engineering industrial engineering or a closely related field.
    And
    Progressively responsible professional experience in the collection analysis interpretation and reporting of economic scientific social science or similar data.
