Audiologist Lead Cochlear Implant

Nemours is seeking a Lead Cochlear Implant Audiologist to lead a highly visible Cochlear Implant program at Nemours Childrens Health in Orlando Florida.

Primary job: Lead Cochlear Implant Audiologist / Clinical Coordinator

• Seeking a CI dedicated audiologist to lead a highly visible Cochlear Implant program in collaboration with an integrative team and institutional resources.
• Responsibility will involve audiological management care coordination professional education scholarship and outreach/growth initiatives for our Cochlear Implant Program. This individual is expected to work closely with our Medical Director of Audiology Speech AVT lead Device and Implant Coordinator and Audiology Program manager to facilitate continued growth of the Cochlear Implant program.

Additional responsibilities include:

• Comprehensive audiometric pediatric services including hearing evaluations patient examination intervention documentation patient/parent/caretaker education communication and coordination of care with medical/clinical staff and outside agencies as appropriate with the guidelines designated by the department and Nemours Childrens Hospital. Actively participates in departmental education activities to expand knowledge of patient populations and evidence-based practice.

Essential Functions:

• Serve as a subject matter expert and resource for families staff and outside educational institutions. Provide counseling education and resources to ensure that children with hearing and/or communication disorders can acquire optimal language skills and academic abilities regardless of the mode of communication. Stay current with federal and state early childhood intervention and special education laws with regards to hearing and speech.
• Facilitate outreach to educational and other non-traditional referral sources; this individual will partner with the Educational Specialist and Hospital School Program serving as a subject matter expert and support to the liaison role between Nemours and educational institutions throughout the Central Florida area ensuring the educational needs of our patients are understood
• Facilitate and support educational experiences for our patients (i.e. Cochlear Implant Summer Camp) our families (family events) and healthcare/educational professionals (annual CEU providing conference) at Nemours; events occurring in collaboration with integrative teams for support and resources.
• Promote Nemours Cochlear Implant teams presence at professional conferences and/or meetings with submission of abstract(s) and presentation(s) of scholarly works annually.
• Collaborate with Nemours Ear Hearing and Communication Center and the Divisions Auditory Neuroscientist in research initiatives of health services translational and/or clinical outcomes nature.
• Collaborate with Nemours social media team and marketing teams in developing a visible presence for Nemours Childrens Health Florida hearing health services working with other division leads to highlight our programs including Implantable devices Electrodiagnostics Hearing amplification and Vestibular testing.
• Work closely with the Device and Implant Coordinator to ensure care coordination and reduced loss to follow up for potential cochlear implant candidates especially those with complex care needs and participating in destination care services i.e. international patients.
• Participate in CI team related collaborative work including facilitating monthly Cochlear Implant meetings collaborating with the CI team to develop and maintain protocols that exemplify best practice standards and facilitating meetings with CI manufacturers for education and training.
• Clinical responsibilities include administering age-appropriate audiological pediatric evaluations including middle ear analysis otoacoustic emissions auditory brainstem response testing VRA CPA and traditional behavioral threshold evaluations in accordance with established protocols with appropriate counseling regarding evaluation results and recommendations for treatment intervention follow-up and referral. Responsibilities include earmold impressions modifications hearing aid BAHS and cochlear implant evaluations selection programming dispensing of devices including electroacoustic/behavioral verification follow-up and counseling. Additional responsibilities include hearing aid troubleshooting in-office repairs and recommending/fitting assistive listening devices.

Job Requirements:

• Doctorate in Audiology (AuD) from an accredited university program is required. Licensed Audiologists with a Masters degree in Audiology may be considered.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in clinical audiology preferably in pediatrics and/or cochlear implants required.

• Active license to practice Audiology in Florida (or eligible to be licensed) required.

• Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association required within 6 months of hire date.

• Experience with physically or mentally-challenged patient population.

• Familiarity with assessment scales and instrument techniques of assessment and intervention with pediatric populations.

• Strong electrophysiological background including ABR VEMP and VNG testing.

• Pediatric Audiology Specialty Certification (PASC) preferred.

• Completion of Institute for Cochlear Implant Audiology course (or faculty in course) preferred.

• Member of professional specialty organizations (AAA ASHA Florida Academy of Audiology etc. preferred.
