Job Summary

What You Can Expect

ENGIE North America is seeking a Controls Engineering Intern to support industrial control systems (ICS) automation platforms and operational technology (OT) systems for the University of Iowa utility network. This on-site role at the Madison Street Services Building includes programming support testing troubleshooting CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) updates in Maximo networking tasks and ICS security validation.

Youll work closely with the Controls Engineering Team (CET) and collaborate with ICS security and Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) personnel. This position reports directly to the CET Manager.

Work hours are flexible: up to 20 hours/week during academic semesters and up to 40 hours/week during breaks (MondayFriday 7 a.m.5 p.m.). No weekend or after-hours work is expected.

This internship offers hands-on experience in controls engineering industrial automation ICS/OT operations reliability engineering and ICS cybersecurity. It is ideal for students interested in PLC/HMI (Programmable Logic Controller / Human-Machine Interface) programming automated system design industrial networking reliability planning CMMS workflows and modern ICS/OT systems.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Support troubleshooting testing and documentation of ICS/OT systems.
  • Assist in updating control sequences configurations and networking components.
  • Contribute to ICS cybersecurity testing and control validation.
  • Maintain ICS asset records and reliability/maintenance documentation in Maximo.
  • Assist with technical documentation and project coordination.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

  • Interns must be enrolled students in good standing at the commencement of the intern semester.
  • Onsite attendance required (2040 hours/week depending on academic schedule).
  • Valid U.S. drivers license with a clean driving record (may involve use of a company vehicle).
  • Ability to climb stairs/ladders lift up to 50 lbs and wear required PPE.
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies

Compensation

Hourly Range: $22.50 - $32.00 USD hourly

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

Actual offered salary may depend on geography experience industry knowledge education internal pay alignment or other bona fide factors.
