Senior OpenVMS Software Engineer (On-site)

Peraton is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our team of qualified diverse individuals.

Work Location: Candidates must be local to New York City with the ability to work full time onsite at FDNY Headquarters in Brooklyn NY. A hybrid work schedule may be considered after three months.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Implement feature enhancements and other changes for a suite of software products marketed to the public safety domain
• Develop solutions primarily using OpenVMS Macro Assembly. Use of other technologies expected
• Collaborate with systems engineers to gain understanding of system requirements
• Implement system requirements to meet user needs
• Assist with the development of estimates for levels of effort for proposed changes
• Apply software engineering best practices to ensure software quality

Basic Qualifications:
To be considered for this position you must minimally meet the following knowledge skills and abilities:

• Bachelors degree and 8 years of experience or an Associates degree and 10 years of experience or a High School diploma and 12 years of experience

• Minimum of 8 years of software engineering experience

• Proficiency in DCL (Digital Command Language) scripting and RMS (OpenVMS Record Management System Indexed files)

• At least 5 years of software development expertise with OpenVMS Macro Assembly

• Experience developing with TCP and UDP protocols as well as XML and JSON message formats

• Experience across the full product life cycle

Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

• Masters degree in software engineering computer science or a related field

• Experience in Public Safety Solutions

• Experience with computer-aided dispatch systems

• 8 to 10 years of experience with the OpenVMS operating system
