GTI Energy is seeking a Research & Engineering Intern to support the execution of applied research and development projects focused on advancing lowâcarbon energyâefficient and innovative energy technologies. The intern will work closely with engineers scientists and technical staff in a collaborative R&D environment contributing to laboratory testing engineering analysis data collection and technical documentation that support GTI Energys mission to address global energy challenges.
This role provides handsâon experience in realâworld engineering and research activities exposure to cuttingâedge energy technologies and opportunities for professional growth within a multidisciplinary team environment.

Work Location
The position will be based at GTI Energy Headquarters in the Chicagoland area. We offer a hybrid/core work schedule in which employees work remotely on Mondays and Fridays and are on-site Tuesday through Thursday. Interns may be required to be on-site up to five days per week depending on lab work and project requirements.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist with engineering design analysis and applied research tasks across assigned projects
- Support laboratory and pilotâscale testing including test setup execution troubleshooting and teardown
- Collect analyze and document experimental field or modeling data
- Assist in prototype builds equipment testing and system evaluations
- Contribute to technical reports presentations and project documentation for internal and external stakeholders
- Collaborate with crossâfunctional teams in a teamâbased R&D environment
- Follow established safety procedures testing protocols and quality standards
- Perform other duties as assigned to support project and organizational needs
Knowledge Skills Abilities and Other Characteristics
- Interest in engineering applied research or energyârelated technologies
- Ability to think critically analyze data and apply technical concepts
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to learn and follow laboratory safety and testing procedures
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and willingness to learn technical software/tools as needed
Education and Experience
- Actively enrolled in an engineering science or related technical degree program
- Completion of at least one year of undergraduate coursework (varies by role)
- Preferred majors may include mechanical chemical electrical process systems data science or related disciplines
Pay Transparency
The pay range for this position is $17 - $28 USD per hour. This pay range is GTI Energys good faith estimate and the actual pay may vary based on a number of factors including but not limited to GTI Energys business or organizational needs and an individuals relevant experience education qualifications certifications skills seniority geographic location and/or performance. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate monthly rate or annual salary only and do not include bonus. The range listed is just one component of GTI Energys total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses paid time off and region-specific benefits.
