This is a combined full-time role working across the Child Health (i.e. clinic based) and School Readiness teams. The Child Health Team provides short term supports to children with mild to moderate developmental challenges and are not eligible for NDIS supports.

YOUR NEW ROLE:

The Paediatric Occupational Therapy position provides services under the Child Health and School Readiness Programs within Holstep Health.

As part of these multidisciplinary teams the Paediatric Occupational Therapist will work with paediatric clients and their families as well as kindergarten educators. This is a combined role across two programs - the Child Health (i.e. clinic-based) and School Readiness programs.

For the Child Health role the Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing services to children from birth to 8 years who require support with self-help skills learning and playing motor skills social skills and sensory development. This position will be based at our West Heidelberg site.

The School Readiness role involves supporting kindergarten educators to build their capacity to support young childrens learning. This position will involve flexible working arrangements with travel to kindergartens required on a regular basis. This role involves servicing early childhood settings in the Merri-bek local government area.

YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

Child Health:

Provide high quality evidence based occupational therapy services and health education in line with accepted professional standards.

Assessment and management of paediatric occupational therapy clients using individual group education and consultative models.

Provide services in a manner that respects the confidentiality of the client and family.

In collaboration develop implement and evaluate therapy programs appropriate to the work of the Child Health Team.

Refer liaise and consult with others involved in the individual child and familys healthcare provision including local agencies.

Attendance at monthly Child Health Team and other organisation meetings as required.

Participation in monthly clinical supervision as well as ongoing peer support to ensure services reflect current best clinical practice.

Participation in relevant networks and community forums and maintain links with key external agencies.

Ensure the program and service delivery reflects the cultural and social diversity of the local community.

In collaboration with other team members participate in continual quality improvement initiatives in line with the teams strategic plan.

School Readiness:

Work in collaboration with the School Readiness team educators and families to build their capability to create an environment for kindergarten aged children that promotes their communication wellbeing and access and inclusion.

Build the capability of educators and families to support children through coaching modelling group training case consultation support and other discipline-specific services.

Work collaboratively with kindergartens and DET area staff across the LGAs/regions to plan for how they will utilise their allied health entitlement and ensure success of the proposed objectives of the program.

Provide support to educators and families via phone email Teams etc. as required.

Collect quantitative and qualitative data for regular program performance monitoring and program evaluation.

Establish and maintain professional relationships with other School Readiness service providers and DET area staff and participate in regional network meetings as appropriate.

Ensure compliance with the School Readiness Allied Health Program Agreement in accordance with program procedures and protocols.

Manage own work schedule and operate within the specified responsibilities of the work role and scope of practice; seeking clarification when unsure.

Approved graduate or post-graduate degree in Occupational Therapy with exposure to working in paediatrics.

Ability to manage an occupational therapy caseload with support from team.

Experience in developing running and evaluating group and individual therapy programs.

A commitment to working in a capability building and coaching role with educators and families to promote skills and knowledge across areas of child development.

A willingness to engage in and develop personal skills to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and implement evidence-based programs that support positive outcomes in early years.

Strong communication skills and an ongoing commitment to developing interpersonal and networking skills.

Ability to work independently and unsupervised as the role requires as well as demonstrated experience in team work.

Demonstrated understanding of child development in the early years and the impact of this on educational outcomes.

Demonstrate a commitment to culturally safe and sensitive service provision
