Temporary Suspension Expulsion Itinerant Teacher

1.0 F.T.E. Long Term Occasional Position Haliburton & CKL

POSTING: OST

The successful candidate will report directly to the Superintendent of Learning (Safe Schools) and the Principal of Adult and Alternative Education working as part of the team to support and provide academic programing for students in Grades 4 - 12 who have been placed on a Supervised Alternative Learning Plan suspended or have been expelled from school.

This is a temporary appointment starting February 24 2026 and ending April 7 2026 .

R egions: Haliburton and City of Kawartha Lakes

Work Locations: Negotiable based out of AAEC Centres (Supporting students within the Haliburton and City of Kawartha Lakes areas).

Salary: Salary placement will be determined by the Board in accordance with the current Collective Agreement between the Board and Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation District 15 (OSSTF) and calculated based on the candidates verified teaching experience and category rating. The current salary grid is included for information purposes here .

Responsibilities to include:

  • Assist in the development of Student Action plans based on academic needs and attend Action Plan meetings
  • Connect regularly with assigned students to ensure students are meeting the academic requirements of their program
  • Deliver and/or support curriculum grades 4-12 focused primarily in numeracy and literacy
  • Delivery of curriculum assessment and evaluation will be both virtually and in-person depending on the students needs
  • Provide and facilitate necessary remediation
  • Refer students for support services if necessary or requested by the student
  • Collect and submit data required of the program
  • Co-ordinate the exchange of academic progress information (marks and attendance) to the home school
  • Other duties related to the role of supporting students in SAL suspension and expulsion programs
Qualifications:
  • Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
  • Special Education qualifications an asset
  • Qualifications in 3 or more divisions an asset
  • Minimum 5 years teaching experience in Ontario schools
  • A current valid drivers license
Required Skills Include:
  • Demonstrated ability as an exemplary teacher with experience supporting At Risk and struggling students in a classroom setting within the last five years.
  • Exemplary knowledge and use of behaviour support plans safety plans and IEPs
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively as a member of a interdisciplinary team that may include school staff central staff parents/guardians and staff external to the board
  • Proficiency with technology to support teaching and learning including assistive technology as a necessary accommodation
  • Ability and experience teaching in a virtual environment
