PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) was developed to answer the many problems around caring for frail seniors. The PACE model is centered on the belief that it is better for the well-being of seniors with chronic care needs and their families to be served in their community whenever possible.

Seniors their family members and caregivers face many issues including transportation to appointments management of medications coordination of medical care from different specialists lack of social interaction and ability to stay alone at home. On Lok PACE participants receive in home care services and transportation to a On Lok PACE center for primary medical care social and recreational activities and other senior care services.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Driver Trainer position is responsible for ensuring the timely completion of training requirements for drivers within the service area. The Driver Trainer upholds On Lok and industry driver safety standards by leading new hire and remedial training sessions performing internal audits and random field checks of safety procedures and assisting with fleet maintenance.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Train new drivers as well as conduct corrective action training.
2. Perform and model safe operation of vehicles (includes proper use of wheelchair tie down use of lift etc.) while transporting participants from their homes to the day health centers and community appointments.
3. Conduct audits and field checks to assist Fleet and Safety Coordinator with ensuring vehicles receive timely preventative and ongoing maintenance.
4. Ensure participant and vehicle safety through van maintenance pre-trip inspections use of seatbelts body mechanics transfer training and wheelchair safety.
5. Perform ongoing random driver field checks in the assigned service area.
6. Ensure completion of regular Driver Safety and agility training; provide administrative support to track and document completed training for assigned drivers in service area.
7. Report safety concerns and remediation recommendations to the Transportation Manager and Director of Transportation immediately.
8. Ensure delivery of quality of services to internal and external customers through adherence to policies and procedures; includes maintaining participant safety standards.

QUALIFICATIONS (knowledge skills abilities):

Required Qualifications:

1. Licensed California Driver (Commercial C license not required) with clean driving record (no more than 1 point in previous 5 years).
2. 7 years of experience in paratransit environment.
3. At least one year of experience delivering formal or informal training or mentoring.
4. At least one year of administrative tracking/auditing/monitoring vehicle maintenance program.
5. Ability to operate all vehicles of On Lok; has some basic mechanical ability and understands the maintenance program for vehicles.
6. Demonstrated commitment to the safety of both drivers and riders.
7. Flexible and conscientious.
8. Compassionate and open to working directly with frail elderly people from diverse backgrounds.
9. Demonstrates mature judgment patience and problem-solving skills.
10. Understands and carries out oral and written directions; ability to write and maintain logs.
11. Experience and comfort using transportation technology.
12. Familiarity with traffic routes and driving regulations in SF Bay Area.
13. Demonstrated commitment to On Lok core values of compassion resourcefulness excellence and inclusivity.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Certified Defensive Driver Trainer.
2. Bilingual English/ Spanish or Cantonese/ English required for some positions depending on location.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

1. Traveling via driving or public transportation within designated cities is required.
2. A working space is provided to conduct documentation and other administrative responsibilities.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee occasionally is required to climb and stoop kneel crouch or crawl.
2. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
3. Physical requirements include ability to lift/move up to 75 pounds occasionally and up to 50 pounds frequently.
4. This position requires long periods of sitting in vehicles.

Your final compensation offer will be determined based on factors such as skills experience education and licenses/certifications. The pay range is expressed as an hourly rate regardless of FLSA status. Exempt positions are paid salaried and are not subject to overtime.
