Job Description

Job Title: PCB Hand Assembler

Department: Printed Circuit Boards
Reports To: PCB Supervisor
Location: Binghamton NY

Position Summary:

The PCB Hand Assembler is responsible for the accurate assembly of electronic circuit boards according to detailed work instructions drawings and bills of materials. This role involves identifying and installing the correct electronic components applying masking materials where required and preparing assemblies for wave soldering and subsequent inspection. Attention to detail manual dexterity and quality workmanship are essential to ensure boards meet company and customer standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assembly & Preparation
    • Read and follow work instructions assembly drawings and component placement diagrams to correctly identify and install parts on printed circuit boards (PCBs).
    • Handle and place through-hole components such as resistors capacitors connectors and other relevant components using hands hand tools or tweezers.
    • Apply masking materials or high-temperature tape to designated areas prior to wave soldering to protect components and keep solder-free zones.
    • Verify component orientation polarity and value before insertion or masking.
    • Trim component leads to specified lengths prior to soldering operations.
  • Quality & Inspection
    • Perform visual inspections to ensure correct component placement alignment and solder mask coverage.
    • Identify and report discrepancies missing components improperly labeled or mis-picked parts or damaged boards.
    • Work closely with quality control personnel to address any nonconformities or rework requirements.
  • Documentation & Process Control
    • Accurately document assembly steps component traceability and completed operations on production travelers or electronic records.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 13 years of experience in electronic assembly or related manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions schematics and component identifiers.
  • Knowledge of electronic components and familiarity with PCB layouts.
  • Strong manual dexterity attention to detail and handeye coordination.
  • Experience working in an ESD-controlled environment a plus.
  • IPC-A-610 certification preferred but not required (company-provided training available).

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in an electronics assembly area with exposure to small components flux fumes and soldering equipment. You must wear appropriate ESD & PPE protection (as documented in our safety manual). Work may involve sitting for extended periods and using magnification tools for inspection.

The hiring range for this position in the primary work location of Binghamton New York is: $16.00-$19.92 per hiring range for other Bose work locations may vary.
