SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary:$22.11 - $28.32/hr commensurate with experience and qualifications

ROLE AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) is responsible for assisting the occupational therapist in the assigned area of responsibility to administer treatment programs for students. Performs direct treatment for students under the direction of a registered occupational therapist in accordance with the guidelines prescribed by a physician.
Essential Duties (May include but not limited to):
- Assists the occupational therapist with student evaluations and the development of progress reports related to occupational therapy.
- Assists the occupational therapist in the development of written individual education plans as well as occupational therapy goals and objectives for students.
- Performs direct occupational therapy treatment on students per the direction and supervision of the occupational therapist.
- Assists the occupational therapist in the accurate maintenance of records of occupational therapy treatment procedures as prescribed for each student.
- Assists the occupational therapist in the identification of occupational therapy instruction needs to be coordinated between the occupational therapy center and the classroom teacher/aide.
- Assists the occupational therapist in the development of an ongoing occupational therapy program to be carried out by instructors aides and parents.
- Reviews occupational therapy treatment goals and student progress related to treatment on a monthly basis on his/her caseload.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High school diploma/equivalent and graduate of an approved program for occupational therapist assistants required. State of Michigan registration to work as a certified occupational therapist required.
Experience:
Two years of experience working with special education students preferred.
Skills/Other:
Ability to accept supervision and direction. Ability to work creatively and skillfully with students. Communicate effectively with students. Present a professional self-image. Communicate professionally effectively and in a timely fashion. Demonstrate punctuality and acceptable attendance. Exhibit dependability. Interact positively with parents caregivers and team members. Cooperate with other staff. Follow district health and safety procedures. Demonstrate physical stamina necessary for lifting and moving students up to 26 years of age; repetitive stooping squatting bending lifting walking kneeling and reaching while maintaining personal balance and stability; implementing behavior management plans and performing the essential job duties. Ability to utilize district technology and work to maintain proficiency as required skills sets change with technology and/or the needs of the district. Ability to work a flexible workday work week and work year. Demonstrate honesty integrity and professionalism at all times. Ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions in accordance with board policies and established administrative guidelines.
