Job Description:

Summary & Purpose of the Position

Under the direction of the Medical Director/Medical TA Lead the Medical Advisor acts as the first point of contact for any medical activity related to her/his product/ area of responsibility including undertaking studies scientific liaison medical information and other project activities in accordance with Ipsen SOPs and International Codes of Practice. The Medical Advisor provides non-promotional high level scientific medical and technical support to Ipsens external (Health Care Professionals Patient Organizations) and internal customers at office or field levels he/she also provides significant cross-functional medical input including to local commercial and market access.

Main Responsibilities & Technical Competencies

Provide scientific information and support:

  • Contribute to and support the clear articulation of a compelling brand strategy for her/his product/ area of responsibility across Ipsen marketing sales and medical functions
  • Assist in the organization and scientific support of key external National and Regional events e.g. satellite symposia etc.
  • Deliver lectures on scientific clinical and technical topics in the designated Therapeutic Area spontaneously requested ensuring appropriate approval in relevant systems
  • In close co-ordination with existing medical information resources respond professionally and quickly to documented unsolicited requests from the field and external stakeholders for clinical information and data in relation to product / disease specific questions including pre-launch communication on-label or off-label use or any Ipsens research programs

Develop and Maintain knowledge on area of responsibility:

  • Be the topic expert in the assigned TA/region
  • Track and manage evolving evidence base in areas critical for the organization. Ensure this is communicated to the appropriate Ipsen personnel
  • Support Health Care Professionals (HCPs) including Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) in line with Ipsen strategy. Support HCPs by reactively (and proactively where appropriate) providing them with scientific and clinical data and support knowledge on individual funding where needed.
  • Set-up and maintain collaboration with the relevant Patient Organizations in line with Ipsen strategy.
  • Attend appropriate scientific congresses to interact with HCPs develop knowledge in relevant therapy areas and to produce congress summaries for dissemination to HCPs.
  • Support the dissemination of product and disease area knowledge across Ipsen in accordance with business priorities
  • Undertake regular communication of best practice and facilitation of knowledge sharing cross functionally and across geographies
  • Assist in maintaining improving and promoting the Medical Information and wider medical service in line with the Franchise Strategy and Ipsen SOPs

Provide medical brand support and in-field activities:

  • Have a strong external focus
  • Contribute to the design and execution of studies through setting up or supporting local studies or support of Specialty Franchise studies as appropriate in line with Ipsen SOPs and International Guidelines to ensure successful completion of the studies and their publication. Where required provide budget control and accountability of these programs.
  • Ensure execution of planned medical in-field activities aligned with the Brand strategy
  • Identify and build relationships with National Regional or Local Thought Leaders
  • Organize Advisory Boards within the business Strategy with the approval and support of the Medical Franchise and Country/Cluster teams
  • Undertake publication planning slide-deck development and internal training initiatives
  • Assist in the development review and approval of scientific and clinical content of relevant promotional and non-promotional materials and activities
  • Provide field-based medical support to the Companys scientific research programs as required
  • Gather and disseminate competitive intelligence from multiple sources.
  • Provide out of hours medical cover as required
  • Provide technical / medical support to Local Regulatory Affairs as required
  • Undertake other departmental tasks and provide support as required

Provide strategic input and medical leadership

  • Promote a performance-oriented customer-focused environment through the development motivation and effective leadership in Medical Team
  • In collaboration with the Medical TA Lead develop the medical strategy and medical plan in the assigned TA. Align within the BT to incorporate in the overall Brand Plan
  • Be a proactive member of the affiliate medical team share knowledge engage in discussions contribute to increase knowledge level of the full team

Compliance & governance:

  • Ensure that scientific support is informed balanced current and complies with the spirit and letter of EFPIA codes National guidelines or regulatory rules and Ipsen SOPs. This includes but is not restricted to maintaining high professional standards of conduct in line with Ipsen Company Standard Operating Procedures with a duty of care to the reputation of the company.
  • Demonstrated capacity to build strong relationships across functions and to work closely with all people across the business

Knowledge & Experience

Knowledge & Experience (essential):

  • Degree in Medicine or other higher life science qualification
  • Minimum 5 years experience in Pharmaceutical Industry or biotechnology companies in Specialty Care business

Knowledge & Experience (preferred):

  • PhD or other research experience
  • Master in pharmaceutical industry/clinical trials would be a plus

Language(s) (essential):

  • Fluent in Swedish Norwegian Danish or Finish (depending on the assigned region)
  • Fluent in English
