About the Role:

As an Associate in the Education Law practice you will serve as trusted counsel to local school boards and educational administrators. You will provide proactive legal advice represent boards in litigation and administrative proceedings and ensure compliance with evolving state and federal regulations.

This role offers a balanced mix of advisory work contract drafting board governance guidance and litigation. You will attend board meetings conduct training sessions and directly engage with leadership teams making you a visible and valued advisor.

This position is ideal for an attorney who enjoys working at the intersection of law policy governance and public service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with local school boards to provide legal guidance and risk mitigation strategies
  • Advise boards and administrators on:
  • Staff relations and employment matters
  • Pupil rights and obligations
  • IDWA and Section 504 compliance
  • School construction and contract procurement
  • State audits and regulatory compliance
  • Provide support in related areas including employment and environmental law
  • Represent boards in litigation before:
  • New Jersey courts
  • The New Jersey Commissioner of Education
  • The New Jersey Public Employee Relations Commission
  • Other administrative agencies
  • Draft board contracts and related legal documents
  • Conduct training sessions for board members and administrators
  • Attend school board meetings and provide real-time legal counsel

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the New Jersey Bar (required)
  • Minimum of 1 year of legal practice in education law preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of New Jersey Education laws
  • Strong advocacy mediation and interviewing skills
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent organizational skills with high attention to detail
  • Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant legal software
