Job Summary
RN - MedSurg/Tele
About Facility:
o 207 licensed beds
o No Trauma Designation
o Not a Teaching Hospital
o Chest Pain Center
o Stroke Center
o Radius rule: Travelers permanent address must be 50 miles outside of home unit
Unit Information:
o Beds: Will vary based on unit
o Minimum Years of Experience required: 18 months Med/Tele RN (Resource Team requirement)
o Will you accept a first-time traveler: Not preferred but will consider
Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
5N Surgical Telemetry
o 26 Beds
o Patient Types: General Medical Telemetry Overflow; Surgical Patients - Bariatric weight loss surgery Urology procedures General post op Abdominal surgeries GI bleed small bowel obstruction foot and ankle surgery
Patient Ratios:
o RN: 1:5-6 (critical surge 1:7-8)
o CNA: 1:6-12
Required Licensure & Certifications:
o BLS ACLS NIHSS (Resource Team requirement)
Skills required:
o The only unit with additional skills needed is 7N/S Ortho see above
o General Med/Tele skillset: Stroke experience cardiac rhythm interpretation trach care PIV starts chest tube management NGT placement drain/tube management (Dobhoff PEG tubes Hemovac JP drains flexiseals foley insertion/management etc) PCA pumps
o Medication gtt management to include: Cardiac drips Heparin blood products IVF
Support within the Department:
o CNA
o Receptionist/HUC
o Charge nurse may or may not have patients
o Phlebotomy peripheral blood draws
o IV/VAT Team: 11a-7p 11p-7a
o Resource Nurse as staffing allows
o RT 24/7
o Hospitalist 24/7
o Intensivist - ICU provider in house until 11p M-F till 7p Sat/Sun VCC coverage and on call Intensivist
o Telemetry monitoring/tech no
Technology/Equipment:
o EMR: Epic
o IV Pump: Alaris
o Med dispensing: Omnicell
o Monitors: Phillips
Floating: If yes where
o All units within scope at Mercy
o Within region and scope of practice
o Will be required to float per region needs will require floating to all facilities listed below as needed within scope of practice DECLINE if not agreeable

Region 1 - Cabarrus University City Stanly Lake Norman Central Division (CMC Main Mercy LCH (peds only) -- could float to any of the facilities within region if the need arises
Orientation (facility and unit):
o NEO
o 2 days departmental
Scheduling:
o Weekend rotation: every other
o No call
o Holiday Expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays
o RTO: Can approve up to 6 days off excluding holidays must add time to the end of the contract if unable to meet contracted hours
o Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks
