Program Summary
KBR maintains and manages Army prepositioned stocks for the Army Field Support Battalion - Charleston (AFSBn-CHS) located on the Charleston Naval Weapons Station. KBR occupies over 30 government provided facilities in a 366-acre industrial complex to provide tactical equipment maintenance management and storage of Army materiel and logistical services to include supply and transportation activities. KBR also provides maintenance services and logistical support for other Army programs IAW individual scope of work contract requirements.
Job Summary
Engineering Technicians must be able to provide semi-professional technical support for engineers working in such areas as research design development testing or manufacturing process improvement. Work pertains to electrical electronic or mechanical components or equipment. These technicians are required to have some practical knowledge of science or engineering. Some positions may require a practical knowledge of mathematics or computer science. Included are workers who prepare design drawings and assist with the design evaluation and/or modification of machinery and equipment.
The Engineering Technician 5 performs non-routine and complex assignments involving responsibility for planning and conducting a complete project of relatively limited scope or a portion of a larger and more diverse project selects and adapts plans techniques designs or layouts contacts personnel in related activities to resolve problems and coordinates the work reviews analyzes and integrates the technical work of others. Supervisor or professional engineer outlines objectives requirements and design approaches. Completed work is reviewed for technical adequacy and satisfaction of requirements. This incumbent may train and be assisted by lower-level technicians.
Performs one or a combination of the following:
a. Designs develops and constructs major units devices or equipment; conducts tests or experiments; analyzes results and redesigns or modifies equipment to improve performance; and reports results.
b. From general guidelines and specifications (e.g. size or weight requirements) develops designs for equipment without critical performance requirements that are difficult to satisfy such as engine parts research instruments or special purpose circuitry. Analyzes technical data to determine applicability to design problems; selects from several possible design layouts; calculates design data; and prepares layouts detailed specifications parts lists estimates procedures etc. May check and analyze drawings or equipment to determine adequacy of drawings and design.
c. Plans or assists in planning tests to evaluate equipment performance. Determines test requirements equipment modification and test procedures; conducts tests using all types of instruments; analyzes and evaluates test results and prepares reports on findings and recommendations.
Roles and Responsibilities
Specific roles and responsibilities for this position include:
Under general supervision performs non-routine and complex assignments involving responsibility for scoping planning and estimating a complete project of relatively limited scope or a portion of a larger and more diverse project selects and adapts plans techniques designs or layouts contacts personnel in related activities to resolve problems.
Provide engineering support to analyze and evaluate facilities work order requests for repair maintenance and construction submitted by base/installation site building managers and tenants.
Provide field level inspections for engineering projects prepare reports conduct surveys / inspections of site and buildings for project generation maintain paper and electronic records and prepare initial project scopes descriptions and justifications for necessary facility modifications.
Assist the government Facilities Manager or Engineer in reviewing performance work statements (PWS) to identify deficiencies in service contracts assess operational impacts and required revisions.
Analyze existing processes systems and workflows to identify areas for improvement.
At the direction of the government coordinate with other base organizations and various federal state and local officials to evaluate policies procedures and actual maintenance and repair activities and recommend changes necessary for improvement.
Assist in planning activities such as determining production schedules estimating resource requirements and forecasting.
Utilizing computer aided design provide signage drawings for building identification building naming room identification door name plates safety signs directional signs temp signage etc.
Provide design reviews for all new work/projects that include replacement of equipment renovation of current facilities new additions added to the current facilities and construction of the new facilities.
Prepare reports briefings presentations and analysis on facilities assets and engineering support; attend all meetings as required.
Establish and maintain space utilization drawings for all facilities.
Create fill and file forms and documents; prepare charts diagrams and other graphs to illustrate workflow routing floor layouts and how materials are handled.
Confer with management and engineering staff on quality and reliability procedures / standards.
Supervisor or government engineer outlines objectives requirements and design approaches.
Completed work is reviewed for technical adequacy and satisfaction of requirements.
Practical knowledge of engineering design and construction methods building codes and techniques.
Technical knowledge of industrial engineering practices methods techniques costs materials and equipment.
Ability to draw read and interpret engineering and architectural plans and specifications using computer aided design (Auto CAD).
Knowledge understanding and use of terminology data and standards relating to validating planning scheduling and scoping engineering projects.
Requires technical knowledge of materials tools and equipment used to repair and maintain facilities and equipment in an industrial complex.
Ability to understand and respond to oral and written requests for information.
Fluent in Microsoft Office Adobe and computer aided design products.
Basic Qualifications (Required Education Experience Skills and Certifications)
Bachelorsdegreeinengineeringconstructionorindustrialtechnologyis required.
Must be a U.S. Citizen with a valid U.S. Passport
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC)
Must obtain and maintain local base access.
Must possess CAD experience with project design.
Must have seven years of full-time paid experience in direct support of industrial engineering operations / design construction scope development space utilization and review of ongoing projects of facilities and real property equipment.
Must be a team player with a positive attitude and the ability to adapt to change.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand - between 4 to 6 hours per day.
Must be able to walk - between 4 to 5 hours per day.
Must be able to Lift - up to 35 lbs.
Must be able to squat knell bend reach and climb periodically.
Must be able to work outside and inside in non-climate-controlled environments.
Must be able to wear all standard PPE.

Our workforce is paid hourly based on a guaranteed 40-hour work week; the daily schedule is from 6:30 am 3:00 pm Monday-Friday (work hours are determined by the program manager and the government customer).
For hourly employees the premium overtime is paidat time and a half.
The APS-3workforce receives 11 Federal Holidays per year in addition to paid time off.
