Floater Counsellors ensure the smooth day-to-day delivery of camp programs. They support Day Camp Counsellors at both indoor and outdoor locations by covering breaks staff absences program transitions and group management. Flexible and adaptable they step into different scenarios and programs as needed. Floater Counsellors help create a safe positive camp environment where children and youth can grow develop leadership skills and enjoy a meaningful camp experience.

In this role you will:

  • Cover Day Camp Counsellor groups and deliver programs during break coverage and staff absences
  • Assist as second counsellor with programming group management and behaviour management
  • Participate enthusiastically in all camp programs with camper groups including recreational swimming
  • Program plan and ensure daily and weekly YMCA camp plans are completed in line with the objectives of program modules set by supervisors
  • Attend all staff trainings and meetings arrive on time and actively participate to contribute to the development of all camp staff
  • Ensure Health and Safety procedures are followed and maintained and contribute to the cleaning safety and maintenance of camp sites
  • Act as a positive role model for campers and fellow staff by embodying YMCA values policies procedures Day Camp guidelines and Ontario Camping Association standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned

    You bring:

    • Standard First Aid & CPR-C required by the first day of employment and valid until at least the last day of the contract
    • Minimum 1-year previous camp experience with YMCA Day Camp experience preferred
    • Experience working with children preferred
    • Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and in a team environment
    • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with families staff and volunteers
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to lead a group of children
    • Minimum age 17 by December 31st
    • Commitment to diversity equity inclusion and building a sense of belonging
