Work Hours: Part time hours in June for training then up to 40 hours per week Monday Friday starting June 22 until September 4 2026

Day Camp Counsellors are responsible for the successful day-to-day implementation of day camp programming for groups of up to twelve campers aged 4 to 12 years. The role ensures that all children and youth have a safe positive and engaging camp experience that supports personal growth and leadership development. Counsellors plan and lead a variety of activities arts and crafts sports science activities along with cooperative small and large group games and more!

In this role you will:

  • Ensure program plans are followed and campers experience a fun safe and engaging high-quality camp environment
  • Participate enthusiastically in all camp programs with campers including recreational swim
  • Build relationships with members staff volunteers and community partners
  • Attend all staff trainings and meetings arriving on time and actively contributing to the development of all staff members
  • Ensure campers are safely supervised and supported at all times providing opportunities for all participants to experience success
  • Ensure Health & Safety procedures are being followed andmaintainedand contribute to the cleaningsafetyand maintenance to camp sites
  • Act as a positive role model for all participants and staff by embodying the values of the YMCA following all YMCA camp guidelines policies procedures and Ontario Camps Association standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned

You bring:

    • Minimum 17 years old by December 31st
    • Standard First Aid & CPR-C required by the first day of employment and valid until at least the last day of your contract
    • Experience working with children preferred
    • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and adapt to change
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to lead a group of children
    • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with members staff and volunteers
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently to achieve optimal collective results
    • Ability to deliver feedback in a timely and constructive manner to participants
    • Commitment to diversity equity inclusion and building a sense of belonging
