DescriptionIn accordance with the Vision Purpose and Values and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Director Facilities Maintenance & Operations (FMO) the Manager is responsible for all aspects of planning organization and management of the physical plant for a specified geographic area. Within the assigned area the Manager is responsible for facility operations and maintenance utility management construction management long-range capital planning capital equipment requests and installation and construction. Leads various regional projects on specific operational maintenance or construction issues.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Training And Experience
A level of education training and experience equivalent to a Bachelors Degree in Engineering Applied Science or Technology preferably in a mechanical plant engineering or related field with related professional designation.
Skills And Abilities
- Minimum of ten years practical experience in plant operations/ maintenance/capital construction including comprehensive hospital plant operations and maintenance experience and supervisory/management level.
- Courses in Facilities Management prefer certificate program or professional designation.
- First or Second Class Power Engineer Certificate of competency preferred.
- Demonstrated management and leadership skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills appropriate to working with all levels of medical and hospital personnel.
- Ability to work as a member of the management team.
- Sound knowledge of various mechanical electrical and building trades.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize current personal computer hardware and software technologies.
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to keep current with industry trends through continuing education.
- Ability to work effectively while routinely exposed to disagreeable working conditions.
- Physical ability to meet the demands of the position.
- Must have a valid BC Drivers License and access to a personal vehicle at all times.
