About the CLHA

The College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) is a non-profit regulatory organization. The CLHA exists to protect Alberta healthcare users. Our first responsibility is to the public. We regulate the professions of Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Health Care Aides (HCAs) setting and maintaining standards to ensure the public receives safe competent and ethical healthcare services. Employment Term

This is a part-time hourly position with work provided based on need. This position will primarily work remotely with a requirement to travel and come into the office as needed. Most of the work is scheduled when programs are in session.

The Role

Reporting to the Director Education the Education Reviewer - PN & HCA is a member of the program review team for the purpose of facilitating the CLHAs review of PN and HCA education programs licensed by Alberta Health. The incumbent is required to understand interpret and abide by the program review processes outlined in the CLHA Guide to PN and HCA Program Licensing Government of Alberta Curriculum and Licensing polices both the CLHA PN and HCA Education Standards and Indicators and other related documents. They are responsible for managing timelines deadlines and activities for various reviews at the direction of the Education Coordinator (PN or HCA). The Education Reviewer collaborates as a member of the Education team.

This position may be utilized as a member of the program review team for PN education program reviews as well as the HCA program reviews. The PN education review processes are similar in principle to HCA education program reviews although there are some differences.

Key responsibilities

  • Review of Programs Supports the assessment and maintenance of quality PN and HCA programs and competent graduates from approved programs by serving as a review team member for program reviews required by Alberta Health and planned by the CLHA.
  • Administrative Program Review Support Reviews and confirms receipt of materials submitted by post-secondary institutions for new and existing PN and HCA programs. Assists in the preparation of the documentation of PN and HCA program review findings including the review teams summary reports briefing notes and other documents for approval status recommendation by the Education Standards Advisory Committee to the CLHA Council. As requested assists in the preparation of communications to post-secondary institutions for all reviewed programs.
  • Other Education Projects and Responsibilities Supports alignment of project planning and timelines for review activities with program review scheduling and tracking documents. Participates in review team meetings as requested and collaborates with all review team members to support both consistency and continuous improvements of the program review process.

Skills & Abilities

Our ideal candidate is knowledgeable and aware of both the LPN and HCA scope of addition the candidate is aware of trends and issues that may affect LPNs HCAs the nursing professions and healthcare on a provincial national and even international level. With experience in project management and curriculum development and/or evaluation our ideal candidate has strong diplomacy conflict resolution and problem-solving skills. They can recognize and manage sensitive and confidential information as well as be adaptable and flexible to manage multiple conflicting priorities.

With an ability to work well independently but also as a team member our ideal candidate comes with a positive professional attitude and has excellent customer service skills. Utilizing their exceptional writing skills they can explain complicated health sector regulatory concepts in a concise manner using plain language.

Experience

  • Post-secondary education minimum of a two-year diploma in nursing or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of three to five years of experience in curriculum assessment or development and/or in program design. Equivalencies such as teaching and instructional experience may be considered.
  • Experience in supporting or leading large-scale projects is required.
  • Experience with data management and/or project management software is an asset.
  • Experience in a regulatory and/or post-secondary environment is an asset.

Other Qualifications

  • Demonstrated intermediate to advanced PC/computer skills with high proficiency with MS Office including PowerPoint Excel Word and Outlook.
  • Must speak read and write English fluently.
  • Ability to travel provincially.
  • Ability to accommodate fluctuating workload and schedule.
  • Satisfactory professional and criminal reference checks.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.
