Hydrovac Operator
The Hydrovac Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining hydrovac and vacuum excavation equipment for underground utility and construction projects. This role involves safely exposing underground utilities using high-pressure water and vacuum systems to support HDD fiber and utility installation activities. The Hydrovac Operator works closely with field crews to ensure excavation is performed accurately efficiently and in compliance with safety and environmental standards.
Minimum 6 months of experience operating hydrovac or vacuum excavation equipment in construction or utility environments.
Experience working on underground utility telecom or infrastructure projects is preferred.
Knowledge of safe excavation techniques and utility locating procedures.
Ability to perform basic equipment maintenance and minor repairs.
Strong understanding of safety protocols including OSHA standards.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Physical ability to perform fieldwork including lifting equipment and working in various weather conditions.
Valid drivers license and clean driving record.
CDL is not required.
Key Responsibilities
Hydrovac Operation
Operate hydrovac and vacuum excavation equipment to safely expose underground utilities and support HDD and construction operations.
Assist HDD Locators and Operators by providing accurate potholing and daylighting services.
Perform pre-job site inspections and verify utility locations before excavation.
Follow project plans and instructions to ensure precise excavation.
Equipment Maintenance & Reporting
Perform routine inspections cleaning and basic maintenance of hydrovac equipment and trailers.
Report equipment issues and coordinate minor repairs when needed.
Complete daily equipment checklists and maintenance logs.
Ensure proper setup and shutdown procedures are followed.
Safety & Compliance
Follow all company safety policies and procedures at all times.
Ensure proper use of PPE on job sites.
Comply with OSHA regulations and company safety standards.
Maintain awareness of underground utility hazards and environmental risks.
Collaboration & Problem-Solving
Communicate regularly with crew members supervisors and project managers regarding job progress and site conditions.
Identify potential hazards obstacles or conflicts with underground utilities.
Support field teams in resolving site-specific challenges.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate records of work performed including excavation locations equipment usage and maintenance activities.
Submit daily job reports and inspection forms on time.
Additional Duties
Perform other duties as assigned to support project completion.
Promote teamwork accountability and safety culture on all job sites.
Assist with general site setup and cleanup when required.
Work Environment
Outdoor construction and utility job sites in various weather conditions.
Physically demanding role including standing walking lifting equipment and operating machinery.
Exposure to water mud debris and construction materials.
