Position Summary:
The Anesthesia Aide supports the safe and efficient delivery of anesthesia services by maintaining the readiness cleanliness and organization of anesthesia equipment supplies and workspaces throughout the operating suite. This role ensures anesthesia machines carts monitors and emergency equipment are properly stocked functional and positioned prior to surgical procedures to support safe timely patient care. Working as part of a highly collaborative perioperative team the Anesthesia Aide partners closely with CRNAs anesthesiologists and nursing staff to prepare rooms restock consumables and facilitate smooth efficient turnover between cases. The position plays an important role in maintaining operating room workflow and reliability contributing directly to patient safety and a well-coordinated team-focused surgical environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and restock anesthesia workstations carts and surgical rooms to ensure availability of required supplies medications (noncontrolled handling support only) and equipment for upcoming procedures.
- Perform routine cleaning inspection and basic maintenance tasks for anesthesia machines and associated devices reporting malfunctioning equipment promptly.
- Checking all supplies for outdates and ensuring the anesthesia department has the supplies needed review upcoming weeks schedule to determine volume of supplies needed to ensure ability to proceed.
- Maintain organized inventory levels by monitoring stock rotating supplies requisitioning items and coordinating with materials management to prevent shortages or delays.
- Assist anesthesia providers during procedures by locating equipment retrieving supplies setting up specialty items and supporting emergent needs while adhering to sterile and safety protocols.
- Ensure the anesthesia workroom equipment storage areas and OR anesthesia zones remain clean orderly and compliant with regulatory and infection prevention standards.
- Facilitate efficient OR turnover by removing used equipment restocking rooms and preparing setup trays and supplies for subsequent cases.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
Educational Requirements:
- A medical terminology course is preferred
Experience Requirements:
- Anesthesia Aide experience in acute hospital desirable.
- Experience and knowledge in Computer usage preferred
Special Skills or Training Requirements:
- Typing 40 WPM is strongly preferred. Must be efficient.
- Able to work independently without close supervision
Physical Requirements:
The Anesthesia Aide must be able to stand walk bend and move frequently throughout the operating suite for extended periods. The role requires the ability to push and pull anesthesia machines carts and supply bins; lift and carry items up to 40 pounds; and maneuver equipment in tight spaces. Fine motor coordination and visual acuity are necessary for handling small components connectors and tubing. The aide must be capable of working quickly and safely during high volume surgical schedules and responding to urgent needs in fast paced clinical environments.

Work takes place in an operating room and perioperative environment with exposure to sterile fields biohazard materials sharp instruments cleaning chemicals and a wide range of medical equipment. The Anesthesia Aide must adhere to all infection control safety and PPE protocols. The role involves frequent communication with surgeons anesthesia providers nurses and support staff while navigating a high acuity time sensitive setting. Occasional exposure to stressful or emergent situations is expected requiring calm decision making and consistent professionalism.
